A Handbook for Spiritual Directors: An Ignatian Guide for Accompanying Discernment of God's Will

Gallagher's most recent volume is the clearest, most concise and generally most comprehensive basic outline I've read of Ignatius' entire system of discernment and how its different parts fit together in a single process. While I'd recommend his previous books on each set of Ignatius' twin rules of discernment as more readable and more helpful explanations in their own rights, I have no doubt I'll be returning to this monograph frequently. Either as a primer or as a reference to reinforce Ignatius' grammar of discernment, "A Handbook for Spiritual Directors" earns its highly practical, functional title and deserves its spot on any spiritual director's shelf.

I've spent a lot of time with Fr. Gallagher's Ignatian works. As a priest, this one gave me a much-needed, high-level perspective on what it means to walk beside someone discerning the will of God and, therefore, what it means to discern the will of God for oneself. This book has more deeply impacted my day-to-day ministry than any other in recent memory.

I was looking for information to learn more about being a Spiritual Advisor since we are in need of this in our diocese.

This book will be extremely helpful for all spiritual directors seeking to direct people in difficult decisions. As in his other books, Fr. Timothy manages to extrapolate the deep wisdom contained in the often very succinctly formulated ignatian texts. Clear. Deep. Practical. Many examples make the principles come alive. Thank you once again for a great book.
