Pros: nice figuresCons: see belowMy professors don't seem to like the experiments in this text. They tend to use the experiments a guide but they give us separate procedures to use. The questions at the end of each unit are HORRIBLE. I realize that the intention is to make students use their noggins, but this book is out of control. Some of the questions require much more background in microbiology to have a good answer. This seems to be the consensus of most of my class.My one personal pet peeve about the book is the number of times they say "I, Microbiologist". The authors have written it several times throughout each unit. It comes off as pompous and annoying to me.

This book was completely unusable. It was written in a highlighted over, and if I were to attempt to sell a book of this condition anywhere it would be rejected. I am thoroughly disappointed.

I only bought this because I needed it for my class. It's a nicely designed book but pretty useless otherwise. The setup is a bit unclear and a lot of the lab procedures have had to be modified for the class. Unfortunately, if you are taking 109AL/BL at UCLA, you will need to have it to do the readings.
