Absolute Balderdash is a hilarious bluffing game in which you try to con your opponents into believing your made up answer to aweird and wonderful collection of: Events, Words, Laws, Intials and People. Each turn a card is read out and every player writes down their own made up answer. The hilarity really starts when all these phony answers are shuffled up with the real one and read aloud (Keep a straight face so you don't give away which definition is yours!).Everyone then tries to pick which is correct. Players whose phony answers are picked score a move on the board. You can be as wacky or serious as you want, absolutely anything goes - but one thing is for sure, the answer that SOUNDS right probably isn't.Absolute balderdash is the game of incredible fun.

great game. Actually enticed the kids away from screens ...
Had wanted to buy the 20th Anniversary edition, but this was £10 cheaper. However, from what I can make out, they are exactly the same. Maybe the Anniversary edition has different questions, but unless you have another version, why pay more? The game itself was reasonably simple to master, though the men seemed to find it harder and each time it was there turn we had to go through the explanation of scoring. Also had to make sure they could read what was written by other players as we found they would start reading and then stumble making it quite obvious that wasn't the correct answer since they had written it.But overall, great game. Actually enticed the kids away from screens and me away from snacks. Even the kettle got boiled twice during one game but we never did get around to making drinks. What we had thought would be a shortish game, actually turned out to be a couple of hours.Only thing we didn't like was that it is very American. So words had to be adapted in answers and of course all laws were from American states. A UK version would be nice.I'd definitely recommend. I do hope they sell extra cards without having to buy the whole thing again.

Definitely one of those games which will make repeat appearances
We are part of a group of friends who get together now and again, often playing board games. Absolute Balderdash was a new game to us but one that we have enjoyed playing – the rules are fairly straightforward which is helpful as more complicated games rarely make regular appearances when you want a fun, relaxing evening. The scoring does take a little more understanding, but after a few references to the guide notes it was easy enough. The aim is to come up with a believable definition for something and convince the other players that it is the true one. It’s basically a game of bluff, but organised in such a way that the game is fun and very entertaining. We have been surprised to find that those who normally fare less well in winning other board games have tended to do well with this one, and have also been shocked by how good everyone is at telling fibs. This is definitely one of those games which will make repeat appearances rather than lingering at the back of the cupboard.

Leads to war, fantastic.
Great fun, doesn't take long to make sense of and the best way to judge any board game is the number of arguments it can cause in an otherwise loving household, so my final score one machete wielding auntie out of five.

Funny game for lots of players including older children
Great fun game for family with older children. My 10 year old and 14 year old could come up with nonsense answers that convinced us they were real! Much younger children might struggle. Really amusing though. Quite a long game but you can agree that whoever is in the lead is the winner. Recommended. Only downside is that it is heavily American but I guess that is why the game works as it is unlikely that Brits would know the real answers.

Brilliant family game, improves creativity skills!
Loved this game, 8 of us played it and it took 3 hours to complete amidst Christmas chocolate eating and toilet breaks :-) great to encourage creative thinking in school age and adults alike. Really good made up answers provided a lot of debate and laughter. Couldn’t recommend more!
