I would say definitely " no" your child would be very frightened by how the salty liquid can go back into his or her throat ..

What is the volume , size?

It hold 8 oz of water and is about 6" high with the cap on.

Need to wash the bottle with dishwashing soap before using the bottle for the first time?

I've had two of them and I never washed either one of them with dishwashing soap before using them. I just rinsed them out well with hot water. Also, I wouldn't recommend washing them out with soap of any kind. If any of the soap residue got into your sinuses, it would probably hurt.
