Fabulous
These books are so great. Graphic novel that digs in to the facts in an interesting way. Prefect for my 10 and 12 yr olds. We also have "The Great American Dust Bowl" by Don Brown.

Powerful
This a quick, and artfully done, trip to one of this country’s darkest moments. Don Brown’s graphics are very well done and the story is told in a straightforward manner. The epic failures of the Bush administration are highlighted but not dwelt upon. What a horrific event! Quick, but memorable, read.

Didn’t know what to expect, but once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. This blew me away! Now I read all of Don Brown’s books.

Great Read Aloud
My middle school students really enjoyed this as a read aloud. They said it helped them to better understand what exactly happened when this disaster occured. They felt that the explanation allowed them to truly feel like it was happening to them. Something else they really liked about this book is that it was a graphic novel and had pictures to go with the words. Great read! Quick read! Highly recommend incorporating this into your nonfiction unit.

Informative graphic novel about the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina
I read this book for my graphic novel class and for a free read Friday. It is very well done. I learned a lot about the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina in New Orleans, details I wasn't aware of before. Don Brown does a great job of presenting facts without a lot of bias. He uses facts and quotes to present the information. The illustrations are sepia toned and provide emotional details not given in the text. The faces are very expressive and even the way Brown draws the bodies shows how devastating the events were for the people of New Orleans.

Very honest, poignant
The art for this book is tremendously gorgeous and sets the perfect tone for the sadness and devastation of Hurricane Katrina. It presents the facts in a very clear and matter-of-fact way and points out parts of the story that those watching from afar may not have heard yet, such as the trains leaving without passengers. I highly recommend this story.

Superb
Using a graphic format, the author re-captures the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The book's major emphasis is on the tremendous human suffering that resulted. Pictures showing people fleeing, drowning, stranded on rooftops, crowded into holding centers without food or water, etc. are unforgettable. The failure of governmental agencies to recognize the full extent of the problem and to take effective action is clearly documented. Powerful and overwhelmingly sad. It may be too grim for younger children.

Childrens basic comic book.
Nobody made it clear i was buying a childrens book with rough drawn pictures and a few lines of writing on each page! This would be perfect for a child of 6 or 7 years. 1st 2 pages contain the following text : " a swirl of unremarkable wind leaves Aftica and breezes toward the americas. It draws energy from warm atlantic water and grows in size". Thats it!
