Discworld Roleplaying Game [Terry Pratchett, Phil Masters] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Discworld Roleplaying Game Review: It's a great game even if you haven't heard of Discworld - I really love playing with this book. It takes the great advantage of GURPS - making characters that are not only combat-focused, and puts it into a more manageable format. Because the only traits here are suitable for the setting, I've found that it's much faster to prepare a game and characters. I also like is how well they've captured Sir Terry's humour into the game's mechanics. A quick example is inclusion of things like Hyper-Specialization (+5 in an extremely obscure and narrow area of knowledge). One of my players went with Acoustics of Farting Elephants and actually got some use out of it. One thing I found handy and wish I knew earlier is that the character sheet page is included in the demo PDF at warehouse23 Review: it's easy to read and full of b&w illustrations - Man, a LOT of effort went into this book. The author wrote the earlier edition many years ago, so he was familiar with All Things Discworld, but this update is essentially a whole new book. He added everything that's happened in the Discworld series since the previous edition, he's updated all of the rules for the 4th edition of GURPS --- and he figured out how to present the 4th edition rules in exactly the right number of pages. This isn't GURPS 4e in a compact, 30-odd page format. The presentation has room to breathe; it's easy to read and full of b&w illustrations. But only the core of the rules are here. Only what you need. Not only is this one of the best surveys of Discworld, it might be the best introduction you'll find to GURPS.

Fantastic book!
It's well written with lots of great content about the world of the Discworld. The game rules are simple, elegant, and feel reality checked. The character creation is involved and very flexible, there is literally no concept you couldn't create. However, those not looking for a detailed character creation experience can be up and running quickly using the numerous templates provided. Regardless of the method chosen to create characters, the end result is well defined and feels like a fully realised person. I personally like this a lot and see it as one of the games key strong points. Overall, this is a great book and captures life on the disc very well. It does not disappoint and will be the source for many years of play and enjoyment. Terry Pratchett would be proud.

Anything with Pratchett's name on it is usually worth reading.
The newly updated version of the GURPS Discworld RPG rules (fourth edition) certainly contains a lot more information than previous versions. In addition while they used many of Paul Kidby's images from his Discworld art (though I personally find his depiction of Sybil Ramkin to be more butch and mannish than fat but good looking as she is described in the books and feel Kidby has a reticence towards drawing the more sexually provocative Discworld females such as queen Ptraci, Keli, Ella, the Seamstresses, Dryads, Juliet, female adventurers like Conina, younger witches, harem girls or other women such as those met and befriended by Nobby in Klatch, or the Guild of Exotic Dancers just to name a few) they got a new artist to add in additional images to go with the new information. All in all if you want to use it for a role playing game I think it is quite serviceable. Though it appears to now be self published with a paperback cover rather than a hardcover by official printing houses like the older version, but given the 200+ additional pages of information one can overlook that. However there are a number of flaws. For example they refer to Vimes as "Vetinari's Pitbull" instead of "Vetinari's Terrier" the Hermit Elephant is depicted wearing a stoutly built house rather than a simple grass hut, and various other characters like Billious the Oh God of Wine, Nigel, Eric, Teppic in any detail (like his entire reign or being Prtaci's consort if not husband), retrophrenology, Glenda, Madam Sharn, Pepe, the Magpyres, various groups in Ankh-Morpork fighting for equal rights, Lu-Tze, and Mrs. Whitlow among many others have been removed and even some characters who do appear do not get actual words written about them (there are pictures of Mad the Dwarf and Mr. Teatime but no actual sections on them). Meanwhile other characters, races, and so forth have been curtailed and barely mentioned. On the other hand other flaws from earlier versions were fixed. For example in the original Chrysoprase the troll was being used as an image in the Golem section, possibly due to being misidentified because of his polished appearance, and is now firmly in one of the troll sections. What's more despite coming out in 2021 they apparently chose to end the information at Snuff, skipping out on anything to do with the final few books in the series like Raising Steam, as well as The Science of Discworld 4, The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, and most notably anything to do with Tiffany Aching whose books began long before Snuff and include the final book in the series as well as the upcoming Guide to being a Witch by Sir Terry's daughter Rhianna Pratchett. Her elimination from the information is a jarring loss to a serious fan as well as much missing information on beings like the Nac Mac Feegle. Though they do mention apprentice witches and had a picture of a familiar looking toad. I suppose you are of course free to just buy the Discworld books and add them and any other details left out in as you see fit using the RPG's rules. So if you are getting the book as a guide to Discworld as with most of the other books out there you will notice some glaring errors that will grate on a fan of the books like Granny Weatherwax offering sympathy and a kind word, (I recall they misnamed a goblin who invented bicycles for example in the last version of the Discworld Companion and a few other errors in Turtle Recall and so forth and I personally feel the Wit and Wisdom collection of quotes should have been at least six inches thicker than it was, though that last one may just be me) but overall the art is good and there is plenty of information to read over as well as comments from the series. For a roleplaying book based on a bestselling worldwide phenomenon it's okay. Not great, but probably worth throwing in with your other Discworld books. it's not a perfect or complete guide to the series and could be improved and has a few flaws, but any real fan should recognize those mistakes and be able to compensate and if nothing else it might be good for jogging your mind if you want to write fan fiction or otherwise fantasize about potential stories Pratchett did not live to tell.

Perfect for the Discworld Enthusiast who also Loves TTRPGs
Fairly Simple, yet inclusive and versatile game mechanics. A great system to immerse yourselves into the role of a being on The Disc.

great RPG resource book, fun to look at
I grew up with the original AD&D* hardcovers open, often a few at a time. This book brought that back a little bit, except for all the fancy color illustrations done by someone who might even draw professionally, which slightly ruined the "old school RPG" feeling, but greatly enhanced the "Discworld" feeling -- which if we're honest will probably be more important to most people thinking about purchasing this RPG. If you like Discworld & RPGs buy this, at least some part of you will always be glad you did. * some might say I'm "old-school ADD"

A great Discworld game and all around great book.
An awesome, self-contained, game set in Terry Pratchett's titular Discworld, this book is many things. It's an awesome implementation of the GURPS rules, a great introduction to Discworld, and a must have book for completionist Discworld collectors.

Great book, bigger than expected. I bought this as a standalone. Note that you need to do a bit of gurps research if you're looking to GM. I recommend downloading/printing out GURPS lite to help with understanding some of the mechanics.

Daughter in law had been looking for this for months. She loves the role play in it and is waiting eagerly for another.

Ein tolles Regelwerk, bei dem die Mitwirkung von Pratchett nicht zu übersehen ist. Ist für sich schon ein lesenswerter Spaß. Leider findet man keine fertigen Abenteuer dazu. Die Druckqualität ist gut, die Qualität des Einbands lässt sehr zu wünschen übrig.
