3M High Strength Large Hole Repair Kit

I purchased this kit to repair a large hole in our bathroom door. This kit not only made it possible to repair the hole, but I challenge anyone to find where I patched it.

I must say I was nervous as it was my first time patching anything. The kit is easy to use. I found the tutorial video very helpful and the instructions on the back of the kit were very easy to follow. Application went on smoothly. The mesh worked perfectly. I’d like to see larger sizes for the future. The amount of compound was exact.I am waiting for it to dry. Will add that part once it does. Excellent product so far.

Make sure you prep the best you can, the adhesive on the patch is really not very sticky. I decided to be lazy and skip the prep and not read the instructions. The patch was too large for the area I needed so it was awkward trying to get it to stay. Long story short, it fell inside the hole while applying the spackle. So, I ended up just super gluing chunks of drywall I’d removed back to the wall and then caulking over that. There was a slight hole in the middle where I didn’t have enough drywall pieces so so just rolled the spackle into a ball and shoved it into the hole. After that dried, I did another layer and miraculously the wall is back to normal. But what I learned is that the patch isn’t super necessary, you could superglue a piece of cardboard really and spackle over that and it all looks the same in the end.

I normally patch holes using individually purchased items but wanted to do this quickly. The hole patched was a socket hole that the socket was removed. The kit is incredible especially for those not used to patching! I was lucky and had access to the back of the hole so fitting the plastic rigid piece was especially easy BUT I tried to do it as the instructions indicated just for this review. It worked though not as "tight" as I like. Point being - it DID work. The patch compound was easy to use. The spatula was, as you would guess, is cheap but, technically, made to use only once so durable enough. The patch was very durable after fixing. It did not shrink at all. The compound was used for other, smaller patch work and worked perfectly. It spreads really well making it highly versatile.

This hole repair kit worked great. So easy to use and exactly as directed. So much easier than using drywall tape and mud. easy sanding. 20 minutes to patch , 24 hours dry time.

I grabbed onto a towel rack to break a stumble and managed to pull one side out of the wall. I am in no way a handy person. Pretty hard (and expensive) to find a handyman in our area. This product worked very well. Easy well written instructions and includes everything you need. I needed to enlarge the hole (used a hacksaw blade I already owned) as the hole was too small to fit the plastic patch through the existing hole. Took about 10 minutes to repair. After drying for 1 1/2 days, I sanded and painted. Drilled a 1/2” hole to accommodate the toggle anchor. The repaired area feels sturdier than the original drywall. Saved me a $100 visit for a handyman. I admire my work every time I look at it!

this is a super product. I used it to repair the big holes left when I took out the ceramic towel holder in my bathroom. It was easy to use and I wish I would’ve just taken photos and videos of the entire process. I am not an expert in home repair I have some skill, but I know my limitations and here will be a picture of the finished product.

I purchased this to fix the holes left by ADT's crappy installation of their security system. I had 4 fairly large holes to repair. In the past, I used wood on the inside to support new pieces of sheetrock. I purchased this to see if it would be easier. Since my holes were not as large as this kit addresses, I cut the plastic backing down to fit the holes (enough to fix the 4 holes I needed to repair). The double sided tape used on these is not very good. I found, like others, it would not hold. After throughly cleaning the inside of the hole, I used some double sided tape that is very strong. It held the backing plastic in place so I could then fill the holes with the special compound supplied. That stuff is great! Filled the hole securely and dried very quickly. The resulting repairs look good, painted without a trace of the repair. Good product, but could be improved a bit.

This repair kit was exactly what I needed to tackle a DIY project that I have been procrastinating for years! With no prior drywall experience I did some research online, and after watching the 3M tutorial video I took a chance and purchased this kit. Everything that I needed was included in this kit. After less than 10 minutes the hole in the wall was completely patched up. This was no small hole either. My children had pushed a door knob through the wall and continued to pick away at the surrounding drywall, causing a 5 inch hole. Although some have mentioned having difficulty with the tape adhering to the surface of the inner drywall, I found that with extra care when sanding and applying greater pressure while attaching the patch was all that I needed. I encourage others to purchase this kit because of the ease of use and the awesome results!

The product worked to fill a gaping hole in my living room wall. I'm not a handyman, but after watching the video I was able to do it.

Great hole patch. The spackling is a bit messy but does the job.
