Fantastic for the price and what it does!
I bought the Multimix8 about a year and a half ago. I was looking for something compact and solid to use both for home studio recording (GarageBand and Logic Studio Pro) as well as on-line karaoke with Zoom. The build and sound quality are excellent. I have owned other Alesis gear in the past and that helped inform my decision to go with this product sight unseen. It has some important features that I value including sweepable mids on the first 2 channels as well as built-in reverb and an external effects send. Additionally, there is an insert on the first 2 channels as well which means the ability to use side chain compression. Nothing else in this price range had all of those features. There was a Yamaha that came close but required using a computer to access and control effects so it could not be completely standalone. There is also flexible input and output routing via switches which are important depending on what you are doing with it and how you want to monitor audio. It is limited to 44.1/48khz 16bit stereo digital in and out via USB but that is not an issue for me. That said I do wish it had a few other features. Exclusion of some of these are purely about keeping the cost down: I would love solo and mute buttons on the channels. These seem to be missing from all small mixers but are immensely valuable things to have! (I would have paid the same amount of money for only a 4 channel mixer that had all features on every channel plus solo/mute). It would also be really nice to be able to control the volume of the digital audio input. The digital audio FX are passable but limited (I use one of the Alesis reverbs then add in delay when needed externally with the effects send). So ultimately truly a great piece of hardware which I highly recommend!

Great Quality Mixer
A really great professional quality mixer for a good price. I want to address first and foremost to anyone wondering, this mixer only outputs a stereo mix from the Main channel over USB. The channels are not routed individually. Besides that, you get a lot of functionality including two parametric EQ's, and EQs on every channel and built in FX sends that I have found incredibly useful and of great quality. One thing I also really enjoy about this mixer is I've found it to have far less noise than my other DACs. Which I assume is just the quality internals of an Alesis product I personally like to use this mixer to mix my drums and then send it's output into a seperate USB audio interface along with my other instruments/mics. This mixer has more functionality than I have mentioned, some of which I'm not entirely sure how to use yet! But I think any entry level recording enthusiast would enjoy this amazing quality mixer

Great quality & EQ, but some background noise
Decent board for multiple devices & the EQ settings are super convenient. However, their is some noise that the unit generates.

Highly recommended! Excellent product! This is the mixer and audio interface I was looking for
The Alesis mixer is an amazing product. I was looking for a mixer that would allow me to record voice and guitar directly to the computer without using an additional audio interface. The USB connection from the Alesis 8 channel mixer does just that. The controls are easy and intuitive. the effects are very good (although I would have liked some more controls on the effects). The quality of sound is really good.

A great tool for practicing among other uses.
If you're a musician and you're currently practicing your tunes without something like this, you really can't know how you're actually going to sound at the gig. A small mixer like this that you can plug your mic and your instrument or amp into, then mix into headphones or a powered speaker can seriously improve your performance a TON. This is the first and only 4-track mixer I've owned, and it's likely the only one I'll ever need. It's very durable, easy to use, and does more than just get the job done.

Alesis does it again!
I looked at a lot of mixers in this class. This one was immediately clear and clean looking, and it has some good built in effects! I've loved Alesis effects ever since the old Midiverbs. It features low-cut filters and a guitar impedance selector, along with preamp gains for the mic/guitar channels. The Hi and Lo EQ knobs are really effective in shaping the tone, and the pots are noiseless and smooth. Knobs feature a ridged pointer which can be felt in the dark. 48v phantom mic power included, and the usb audio interface works fine in Audacity and LMMS for Windows 7 pro and Ubuntu Linux without need for extra drivers. The power supply is a little switchmode wallwart. (Other OSs not tested.) For me it's perfect. It even has a flat portion on the front where little stickon labels can be placed so I don't forget what's in which channel.

Both Good and Bad
Alright so Up front if you're wanting to use this thing with main out speakers at like an event or even use the head phone monitoring. Best advice don't. Even using grounding clips and other things there's some sort of inherent fault in the design that makes it theres going to be an electrical squeal that will NEVER go away on the Main/Line Out/Monitor Out connections. That right there lowered the products quality significantly cause that's; an ear splitting, head pounding nightmare, and just nothing can fix unless you have the knowledge and experience to rewire and alter the board without toasting it. Now trade off the USB connection seems to have none of that electrical whine unless your crank the gains and volumes to MAX, so for connecting to a Computer for recording actually not bad. Now with that I'll say The Phantom Power seems idk... Weak. Now I'm not using like a Shure 70 or anything like that but I've got a AT2020 which decent mic, but comes in soft, like I have to project a good bit unless I fiddle with the gain and input volume. Now that could be the mic, that could be the board. I'll fiddle some more with other mics and maybe throw a micpreamp in to get a fair shake of that whole thing. **I'll update accordingly** So for your general Podcasting/Streaming/Audio Recording via USB it's pretty fair (baring further testing and checks). Now the audio effects... Alright those are actually pretty decent. Interface is simple. Controls simple. They do what they say they are. Could there be a few more variations or such, sure but eh I'm not super worried about it to much. Supposedly theres software that goes with this thing? Yea I didn't bother. I plug and played the thing, now I will say there was a bit of fiddling with that to get it recognized and working but that may be due to the host of other audio things i have connected so that's a me issue, less a board issue. Overall (outside user error) pretty simple plug and play USB set up. It is what it is. Now Like I said i have some more serious testing to do with it but it's not going to blow minds or socks off, might blow out an ear drum if you aren't careful with the monitors, but it's Ok. Mediocre over all. Does a bare bones job which sometimes is all you need. For some that's more then enough, for others they need more bells and whistles. Me I'll use it til I have enough saved up for a better set up but it does what I need it to... for now.

Great for the price
Pros: - Multi-XLR inputs for recording - Effects (Should you enjoy them) - Acts as a DAC in-itself - Treble/Bass EQ settings - Plug-n-play functionality - Good price for the functionality IMO Cons: - Effects are nearly trash (useless to me) - 16-bit signal chain (could tell a difference in defaults) I bought this for use with my new AT2020 microphone. Overall, I have to say I am very pleased with this purchase. I like how I was able to just connect it to my PC and it be recognized without any further configuration. My main complaint is that is that only supports 16-bit audio. When I first used it I could hear a distinct "distortion" in the audio quality. I found that that changing the bitrate setting in Windows from "CD Quality" to "DVD Quality" got rid of this issue. I still don't like that it doesn't support the higher bit-rates or bit-depths as other mixers, but for the price this is probably as good as it gets. I love the EQ settings this thing offers. It only as a treble and bass EQ, but that is all I need. I came from a Scarlett Solo, which has no EQ settings, but a higher bit-rate and I have to say I would choose the flexibility of this mixer over the solo. Maybe not the best for complete quality, but for flexibility it is awesome. The included effects are garbage. I didn't find a single one to be useful in any application. The only reason I bought this "FX" model is because the original model was discontinued. The effects are worthless unless you are just trying to impress a friend over discord. I really like the ability to plug in multiple Mics when trying to make a podcast and power them via phantom. That is the real selling point for me. The fact that this much flexibility can be had for =<$100 is amazing. That is why I give this four stars. Would be five if it supported a higher bit-rate.

Ottimo mixer usb

Basic straight forward 4-input usb mixer - built like a tank
I'd spent a lot of time looking for a usb mixer and had real trouble finding one that had all the features that I wanted - at least 4 inputs, built in effects, usb out, phantom power and able to act as a stand alone mixer, on/off switch - and wasn't too large or too complicated. This Alesis mixer has all the features that I wanted and is only 18 x 22 x 06 cm. The first thing I noticed when I picked up the box was that it was heavy - this thing is built like a tank, steel facia and back, with plastic sides and the knobs and switches all feel quality. In line with most 4 track mixers inputs 1 and 2 have XLR and jack inputs and separate EQ controls and inputs 3 and 4 are just jack inputs and share one set of EQ controls. Inputs 1 and 2 have both gain and level knobs, as well as pan knobs, while 3 and 4 just have level knobs. Inputs 1 and 2 also have 80HZ low cut switches and input two has a guitar switch to accept high impedance signals. There are 15 effects - 8 reverb, 2 delay, 3 modulation (chorus, flange and rotary) and two multi (chorus and reverb) plus a bypass setting. Effects are dialled in via the selector knob and controlled by both a FX send knob on the inputs and a master FX return level knob. On the back are the power 18V power input, on/off switch, phantom power switch and the usb out socket. The unit comes with short, straight-forward instructions in English and I was very quickly able to get it up and running. Everything works as you would expect in a straight-forward manner, when connected to my iMac it immediately recognised the Alesis and I was able to transfer data. The gain and level knobs are a good feature and on most things that I've plugged in - electric guitars, acoustic guitars, ukuleles, mics, condenser mics etc - I've quickly been able to adjust the signal and get a usable sound. The headphone inputs works fine and there is also a mini jack input to connect mp3 players etc which I haven't used yet. The effects are quite subtle and don't sound synthetic, they are easily adjusted via the send and return knobs. All in all I am very pleased with this mixer, I had considered mixers with more inputs and controls and I'm so glad that I didn't go down that road, the simplicity of this Alesis mixer makes it so easy to use and when lockdown is over and I get a chance to use it in a live setting I'm sure it will come into its own on a dimly lit stage. There are cheaper mixers out there with more features but this does feel quality and I'm sure that it will last.
