Are these placemats mesh, to where if something is spilled the liquid can soak through?

If something liquid were to be spilled on these, yes, it would go through it as they are made of a woven material. They feel like a bamboo fiber, but look cloth. They are nice in appearance and they are sturdy and they protect the solid wood table. They clean up very easily. Just shake crumbs in trash/sink and run water over them, or wipe with wet cloth, then lay in you dish drainer to dry. Then place them back on table. Perfect for a round table! Square place mats looked very sloppy. I highly recommended this product.
