An impressive saw.
I’ve used gas and corded chain saws in the past. This one works very well. It has a lot of power, is of moderate weight, very easy to use, seems to built with appropriate safety features; no near emergencies have arisen from use of it yet where they could have been activated. The battery, at least while new and only having been charged a few times so far, has a lot of capacity. It cuts quickly. It can derail the chain rather fast from small amounts of debris getting into the mechanism, and it takes a few minutes to take the cover off and put everything back on track. Beyond that I like it. I saw Consumer Reports’ rating of it too just the other day, and it gave it high marks as well.

Surpassed All Expectations!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Powerful Performance in a Cordless Package!I recently purchased the EGO Power+ CS1604 16-Inch 56-Volt Cordless Chainsaw, and I can confidently say this tool deserves every bit of the hype. EGO has done an impressive job of delivering a battery-powered chainsaw that performs like a gas chainsaw without the hassle, fumes, and noise! What Stands Out1. Power and PrecisionThe 56-volt battery packs a punch! I was pleasantly surprised at how easily this chainsaw handled medium-sized trees and thicker branches. The 16-inch bar is the ideal size for both larger tree limbs and smaller yard cleanup. Whether you're trimming trees, cutting logs, or dealing with post-storm debris, this saw has the muscle to get through it without the fuss of fuel and oil.2. Impressive Battery Life and ChargingThe included 5.0Ah battery is robust and provides about 60 minutes of runtime under regular use, which is enough to complete most yard projects. EGO's fast charger is excellent, getting the battery back to full charge within 40 minutes, which minimizes downtime. This is perfect if you’re tackling a larger project that might require multiple charging cycles. Plus, the battery is compatible with other EGO tools, which is a big plus if you’re already in their ecosystem.3. User-Friendly and Well-BalancedThe design is lightweight yet durable, and the ergonomics make it comfortable to handle even during extended use. At around 12 pounds, it’s heavy enough to feel substantial but light enough to prevent arm fatigue. EGO’s attention to balance helps keep the saw steady, which makes it easier to get straight, accurate cuts. The tool-free tension adjustment is also a convenient feature, allowing for quick and easy chain adjustments while on the job.4. Quiet OperationWow! Compared to a traditional gas chainsaw, this EGO model is exceptionally quiet. It’s still powerful, but you can use it early in the morning or late in the day without annoying your neighbors—or risking hearing damage from the excessive noise gas models can produce. It’s also easier to start; no pulling cords or priming required—just push a button, and you're ready to go.A Few Drawbacks to NoteInitial Cost: While the price may seem a bit high compared to some gas models, I find the ease of use, the lack of maintenance, and the overall performance justify the investment.Battery Runtime for Larger Jobs: If you have extensive cutting to do, you may need a second battery, which I had, and ending up needing for the job I had. The included 5.0Ah battery works well for most standard tasks, but larger, continuous jobs will drain it faster.Final VerdictThe EGO Power+ CS1604 is a game-changer for homeowners who need a powerful yet quiet and eco-friendly chainsaw. It’s efficient, easy to use, and incredibly convenient for both beginners and seasoned users alike. With its cordless freedom, reliable power, and fast recharge time, this chainsaw is a solid addition to any home tool arsenal. Highly recommend for those looking to skip the gas chainsaw hassle but still get the same performance!Would I buy it again? Absolutely. It’s a top-notch tool that makes yard work feel less like work.

This has replaced my gas chainsaw - still running great a year later
I have been very surprised at the durability of this electric chainsaw. I had 10 mature trees taken down (75 - 100+ feet tall) professionally and left mostly whole. I have used this Ego chainsaw to cut them into bar-length pieces to then chop with an axe. I have owned 4 chainsaws besides this, and the Ego chainsaw has been the most reliable. I have stopped using my gas chainsaw because this Ego is so simple to use. The battery life is great, though in the picture I am using one from my Ego lawnmower (also a great purchase so far.) The key for me to chain longevity has been to just let the chainsaw do the work. I rest the bar on the fallen tree where I want to cut, and then let the weight of the chainsaw push down the bar as it cuts. A very thick log of maple will be cut entirely in less than a minute. At first I ordered Ego's bar chain oil, but once that ran out I've been using regular bar chain oil since I have so much from my other saws, and haven't noticed any difference in performance. I have been using this about 3 days a week for an hour or two, rotating between cutting off a "choppable" length from the fallen tree then carrying it over to be chopped. So I'm making a dozen or so cuts of significantly large tree trunks. I am not using this non-stop felling many trees, but instead processing these 10 trees and others in my woods casually (trees, vines etc.) I have only replaced the chain 1 time about a month ago, and that was after probably 4 months of regular use. It was extremely easy to replace. This has been a great purchase for me and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Those who worry it isn't strong enough compared to gas shouldn't worry. I've been cutting down trees for about 10 years on about 30 combined acres over several locations, and this saw is not significantly different than the Husqvarna or Stihl chainsaws I own, other than its reliability. The Ego saw is so simple and reliable that I haven't touched my gas saw probably this entire year. Lastly, it is much quieter, so I can listen to headphones without turning up the volume to a dangerously high amount to hear my phone over a gas engine. I'm sure my neighbors appreciate how much quieter I am. Of course not smelling gas fumes and managing gas and oil mixtures has been great. As long as I have a charged battery and bar oil, I have nothing to worry about with this tool. Great product!

This is a really good saw!
After tolerating several problems with a 12" DeWalt cordless chain saw including continual oil leakage, it finally crapped out (a little over a year). Searched for a new cordless chainsaw. the EGO 18" had the desired characteristics and good reviews. Also ordered the EGO 14" blade guide/chain for tighter situations which is compatible. I was amazed at how well this saw cuts, I mean it performed really well. After several cuts on various types and sizes, the battery still had half of its capacity. We'll see how it holds up long term but I am very pleased so far. This is best cordless chain saw I've owned. Well worth the money for better unit. And it doesn't leak all over the place.
