Item Two of Four: 4ft SS Pipe (Handle) for DIY Metal Detecting Scoop
SS Pipe is Item Number Two of Four.This pipe will become the Handle of the Scoop Assembly. Selection was based on three Design Parameters for the Handle of my DIY Metal Detecting Scoop Assembly. 1) Material: Must be Corrosion Resistant based on frequent, but brief, exposure to saltwater. 304 Stainless Steel Pipe was selected; 2) Pipe Specifications: Mechanical Properties relative to Pipe Wall Thickness, Pipe Outside Diameter and Pipe Length. Evaluation (eg Rigidity, Stiffness, Mechanical Properties, etc) will use Operational Loadind of the Shovel Assembly; 3) Pipe Specifications:The selected 304 SS Pipe has a 1.25 inch Outside Diameter. The Scoop's mating counterpart has a 1.30 inch Inside Diameter. The Scoop and Pipe fit-up was easily achieved. Specified Maximum Tight Tolerance Fit is 0.020 inch. It is measured when the Pipe (Handle) is fully mated with the Scoop's Counterpart. 100% Copper Shim Stock, 0.010 inch thickness, was used to achieve the required Tolerances Fit. Risk of Galvanic Corrosion, resulting from anticipated Salt Water exposure, is acceptable.
