You need this saw!
So where to begin? I was considering buying a nearly $400 Husqvarna gas chainsaw. I’ve taken down 75 trees in my yard of varying thickness with a friends 16” and 20” saws. So about after 50, I decided to buy this little guy for the remainder, with intent of using it for cutting limbs and branches. Cue my friend getting forced to work overtime like crazy. So I started to experiment with this saw to cut down the remaining trees. Now I still had some thicker ones that would definitely test this saw, being it’s only 12”. But wow. Super impressed. The saw had plenty of power to slice through not only the branches, but I literally sawed about 15-20 trees down with this and fully cut them up. Oak, Maple, Pine, Sassafras. No problems. Had to change the chain once during this due to dulling but it was a lot of cutting. All I have to saw is wow is this convenient! First it’s light. Very easy maneuvering and one hand cutting is super easy when necessary. Powerful enough to cut through trees bigger than 12”. Though a bigger saw would be easier, duh. But it’s nice to know it’s capable. Most importantly, the battery life. I haven’t been more impressed with a battery powered anything in my life. These batteries power this saw for a long time and I’ve only needed to change the battery once during the day while cutting up multiple trees. It’s a small saw but you could use this all day without too much exertion. Quiet and perfect for thinner trees and branches but won’t disappoint you if you need to cut thicker trees. It does use some oil so make sure you have some. Amazing tool. Would give it 10 stars if I could. I ended up buying the Dewalt 20v weed trimmer, pole saw, and hedge trimmer as well. Very impressed with the battery life and quality.

An excellent little saw
I own a Stihl 036 as my big felling and bucking saw, and it's what I will still use for trees and logs larger than 10" diameter. However, I've always liked to keep a second, smaller chain saw around for limbing, bucking small logs, and the lighter weight. Over the years, I owned top-handle (i.e.- pruning/arborist) models from Stihl (their 019) and Efco. While this saw is not technically a top handle, it has the balance and light weight to be used for amateur arborist purposes, while also being useful for making cuts on the ground (note, however, that this saw does not have a lanyard loop like any professional, top-handle arborist saw would). I paid cash/regular Amazon price for my saw, and am not being compensated for this review in any way. So far, I've used the saw for about six hours, and am still on the original chain without sharpening. The chain seems to be holding an edge nicely still (spitting chips, not sawdust), after cutting several large (4"-8") hickory and maple limbs, and limbing and bucking two ~10" diameter maple trees. I used 5.0 Amp hour batteries, and needed to switch them out every 45 minutes or so of hard cutting. I'm not sure how people are getting a full day's work out of even the larger Flexvolt batteries, but since I own a bunch of 4.0 and 5.0 amp hour guys, I just pull them when they get weak and drop them into my chargers. The draw of this 20 Volt saw seems similar to the 20 Volt leaf blower, which I also own. To keep either of these yard tools running hard over a full day, I'd recommend having at least five 5.0 amp hour batteries and four DCB-115 chargers plugged-in. Regarding the leaking of oil in storage complaints that other reviewers have made, this saw will hold its oil well if stored with the flat side of the bar horizontally (i.e.- flat on the ground), with the saw's "DeWalt" logo facing upward. In a "normal" chain saw position (i.e. teeth of bar toward sky & ground, "DeWalt" logo facing sideways), the saw will leak oil, but it's a minor behavior change to solve this. When cutting, the saw does fling oil like a Sheik on the verge of bankruptcy, but bar oil is pretty cheap. Not a big problem, and lubrication is nice... The oil cap was stuck when I received the saw, but careful loosening using pliers freed it, and then a light coat of bar oil along the seal solved the trouble. I can now loosen and tighten it by hand just fine. DeWalt should lubricate the seal with a bit of silicone or oil, but with all the reviews mentioning the problem, hopefully buyers can figure it out... The thin-kerf chain can get bound-up if you push the saw too hard. I had to learn to use a lighter touch to avoid the trouble. The thin bar can flex more than I am used to as well, but again, just adjust your force accordingly. I am still using the original bar, and my saw says right on its body that a 12" bar is the maximum size. Since my Stihl has a 20" bar, I am fine with 12" as the size for this DeWalt. I did allow the chain to get too loose once as I was cutting, and it did jump off, but getting it back on is easy and requires no tools (hint: position the saw upside-down, resting on its handle and brake as you do so). The chain brake works excellently, and this saw feels as safe as such a tool can be. Keep your awareness up, though: quiet is not the same as harmless! I wear kevlar chaps, gloves, and a helmet with face shield and hearing protection when using this saw. But that quiet operation is incredible. With my Stihl 036, my wife and kid can't stand the noise anywhere, even in the house with the windows shut. With this battery powered DeWalt, they can be playing 25 feet away (when I am bucking or limbing, not felling!) This does not feel like a truly heavy duty saw, but as a brush/limbing/lightweight/2nd saw, I love it so far. It's incredible to finish a small cutting job and not reek of 2-stroke fuel. It's great to work quietly so that family and neighbors are not disturbed. With only a few hours' use, I can't yet comment on long-term durability, but it seems like it will last. Will edit if anything changes.

Perfect for anyone... including newbies
This chainsaw is awesome. Im a woman of 5'4... right about national average. I am not an expert when it comes to power tools and I in no way have a green thumb. I do however have a TON of brush to clear... and my clippers just won't cut it. I ordered this 2 years ago. TWO YEARS AGO. And it still works perfectly for our needs. And honestly, we've asked a lot of this chainsaw. I've cut branches with an 8-inch diameter. We literally measured it because we were so impressed. So let's get to specifics.. when it first arrived (again, 2 years ago) I didn't realize I needed anything for it. All you need is some chainsaw oil to keep it running smoothly. This tool is small and light enough for me to feel comfortable using on a ladder (.... and btw I feel like a total badass when I'm up there using it LoL). It only weighs a few pounds though. I'd say like 5 or 6 lbs give or take. And its really easy to move around. It doesn't have what I'd call a "clunk-factor". So if I'm on a ladder trying to cut branchesni can move it around and through branches with minimal effort. And I cant say enough, how much this thing can cut through. We use it mostly on the spring, but this passed Christmas we got our tree home and realized it was a little too high. So we whipped this out and 5 minutes later our tree was perfect. Comparatively, the price is good: Similar items are similarly priced. I went with this one though because of the name. Dewalt is a highly trusted brand. And it gets a full charge in 1 or 2 hours. Also should note.. its simple to understand the mechanics of it. If you take the casing off, you can easily take the chain and bar out to clean and maintain. So I give it 2 big thumbs up! I highly recommend.

Great chainsaw, leaks bar oil a lot though
This is a very handy chainsaw for sure. Even though it leaks bar oil badly, still giving it 4 starts just because it's so powerful and compact. Also very quiet compared to a gas chainsaw. I'd say noise is comparable to a blender or kitchen appliance, maybe slightly quieter. It's just so convenient to be able to throw a battery in it and go for an hour or so. It will cut ~10" logs fairly easily. My only real issue is that the bar oil use/leakage is ridiculous. You'll drain the oil reservoir after a half hour or so of use. The bigger issue in my opinion though is that that oil reservoir will completely drain when the saw is just sitting. I don't know if it leaks out of the cap or out of the auto oiling hole, but I just used it yesterday and I filled it up, drove 3 hours, and all of the oil had drained out in that 3 hours. So that's unacceptable and seems to be a very common issue as other people mentioned. But I'll still give it a mostly good review just because it works so well.

Strong warranty - Great little saw
I bought this because I favor the DeWalt 20V XR platform. I keep it in my side by side for trimming and cutting up fallen limbs in my woods. My use would be described as light. After two and a half years of flawless performance the saw died. After making sure the battery and switches were good I determined the motor or motor controller must have failed. (Many reviews on the internet described the same problem and judged it terminal.) Because the unit had a 3 yr mfrs warranty I reached out to DeWalt. They sent me a return tag and I boxed it up and sent it to them for evaluation. Two weeks later I got the unit back with paperwork indicating the motor/controller assembly had been replaced; no charge. I am extremely pleased with the service and hope the unit works well for many more years.

This chainsaw is AMAZING!
Although I have a slight obsession with DeWalt 20v tools, as someone who has traditionally always used Stihl gas powered chainsaws, I was a little nervous about purchasing one that was battery powered. However, like every other Dewalt product I own, this chainsaw surpassed my expectations in every way. First, even more of a value than I thought. I thought I was paying a little over $200 for the chainsaw only. And was pleasantry surprised to find that it actually comes with a 5 amp hour battery (didn’t read the listing thoroughly). Those are around $75 alone! Setup was a breeze right out of the box. Charge and pop in the battery, add some chain oil (don’t forget to order this too!) and you are off and running. Very lightweight, making it easy to use with one hand when reaching for higher branches. The chain tightening/loosening mechanism is very user friendly. The battery life may have been the most pleasant surprise of all. I cut and hauled limbs for a few hours and still had over half of the charge left on the 5 ah battery. I cut limbs ranging from 2 inches to 10 inches across. This thing never flinched. It’s so quiet that the amount of power and speed at which it melts branches is crazy. In sum: If you are looking for a chainsaw that has plenty of power, isn’t super loud, has a great battery life, is lightweight, is a blast to use, and a great value for your money, then stop reading the reviews and buy this.

Such a great little saw!
I've been using this saw for a bit to clear and limb juniper trees for putting fences in. I've been through 5 or 6 6 amp batteries and a few 5 amp batteries so far and nearly a quart of bar oil. It does a great job at cutting branches off trees up to about 8" in diameter and the battery lasts really well. It goes through about a tank of bar oil per 5 amp battery. The 6 amp 20V (not flex volt) battery gives it a welcome boost in power. I can really tell the difference between it and the 5 amp that came with the saw. It will cut down juniper trees that are 12+" in size, but you'll have to be patient with it. The thing I've been most impressed with has been the battery life. I took down and cut up 3 full juniper trees into 16" logs on a single 6 amp battery. I've also cleared 1600' for fence on a single 6 amp battery. I forget that it's got a battery most of the time and just think about it as a really convenient tool. I don't have any anxiety about the state of charge of the battery, I just use the tool. It does leak oil really bad. I forgot and set it down on it's bottom in the cab of my backhoe one day and came back in the morning to a big mess. I always set it down on it's right side with the side handle up to prevent this. Never had a leak when I've done that.

SIMPLY AMAZING...JUST GO AHEAD AN BUY IT !!!
I’ve owned a couple of chain saws in my life, but I’m the last to tell you I’m any expert. Generally the deal is making sure the engine will start...and continue to run. Pros will just hold the saw in one hand and jerk the cord. Me, on the otherhand, have to put the saw on the ground, make sure I’ve flipped all the correct switches and settings and then with one foot on the floor plate, a hand on the throttle and the other hand on the pull rope, I start the process of trying to get the saw (which has only seen a few trees in it’s lifetime) to start. If you have old fuel or a bad plug, you have to mess with it more or finally throwing in the towel and taking it to the shop. Those days are gone... I received the DeWalt chain saw knowing it would be a compromise from what I once had and what I had been using (a sawzall) to cut limbs, etc. I received if on a Saturday afternoon, unpacked it, put the battery on charge and just left it there overnight. After church I figured I’d attempt to cut a few things down or clean up some brush before the battery died, and trying to keep myself from bodily injury in the process. I filled the oil reserve on the left side of the saw with bar oil, then put on the battery. From there I went to my first “victum” some branches I needed to cut off a tree. I pressed the trigger release and the trigger, the saw came to life and sliced the 2 inch limb like butter. Next I cut a couple of 30’ pine trees with trunks probably 8-10” in diameter. No problem. I then sectioned the two trees...no problem. I then cut some major limbs off a birch tree...no problem. Next a couple of small birch trees, about the same size as the pines...no problem. After sectioning 4 or 5 trees into logs for burning and cleaning up the smaller branches I moved on to cleaning up a couple of small stumps and a couple of other small trees. Other than binding the chain a couple of times (due to inexperience) I think I cut down a total of 6 trees, sectioned 4 of them and cleaning up a number of other things in the yard... I did this all on one battery. The saw really didn’t get slow but I figured it was starting to show some minor fatigue...as was I. I brought the battery in the house to recharge. If you have to cut down a large tree, you may want to go with something else, but I cut down 6 medium sized trees and basically cleaned up after them with no issue and on one battery charge. Whoever designed this thing was a genious. I don’t plan to buy another gasoline saw again. You can also bet this thing will be with me on whatever camping or backyard bonfire we have. It will also be one of the things I’ll have with me if we have another ice storm or hurricane. I was so impressed I also bought the hedge trimmer that runs on the same battery. I’ll let you know how that works out. Anyway, this is a reall good saw. It is well worth considering for any small to medium chore you have for a chainsaw.

Amazing Chainsaw
The only thing I don't like is they didn't mention, the charger wont support 220v so I have to buy a transformer to convert 220 to 120v

Unbelievable in terms of being super light and super great!
It's my hubby's saw. He says the saw is awesome! So light and yet has so much power. So super easy to manoeuver with one hand! He couldn't believe it. Hubby has not stopped talking about this chainsaw!! Sigh! Not only that, he is super impressed with the battery life!! He has had a bunch over the years and this beats them all by a lot! He took down four trees....cut the trunks with a huge power saw and then limbed them with this one. Some of the limbs were over five inches thick. Easy to recharge and fast, apparently. I can write this review because I know how he feels about the chainsaw and he talks about how great it is every time he uses it!! Me, I'm not into that stuff but I do have to listen to him!!...over and over again!!

120 Volts charger-Not mentioned in the description
The only thing which wasn’t detailed in the item’s description is about the power for the battery charger. I didn’t expect to be 120V. However, take care while ordering such tools. I have to buy a transformer from 220v to 120v or a new 220v charger.
