I think we received a knock-off posing as an authentic product. We've been ordering these replacement filters for years, but the last one we received gives the water an off-putting taste of plastic residue. I've emailed the seller about this, but don't have high hopes of getting a resolution as it's been a while since we purchased it even though we installed it more recently. We've been using it for plenty of time to have the new-filter taste go away, and it still tastes terrible.

The difference between the official filter and the imitators out there is the NSF 401 certification. The other brands usually have NSF 42 (chlorine, iron, zinc, and other dissolved solids), and sometimes NSF 53 (chromium, lead, and 48 other contaminants). NSF 401 covers filtration of pesticides, herbicides, prescription drugs, and other chemical compounds.If you really care about taking out the bad stuff from your water, and not just the bad taste, then you'll want the real thing, and the extra money you spend is worth it.I did once find a great bargain for under $30 for this filter, and I wish those guys still had it in stock, but I will not settle for "only" NSF 42 and 53.

I believe in the product however; over the years, and its been many, the product has not changed in its makeup,style, design or features it remained the same although! what has changed constantly is its cost a cost that well exceeds any cost of living percentage or understanding. Again, I first bought my refrigerator and filter at SEARS several years ago and the filter practically doubled in cost since that time. So I would imagine we can blame this on the Coronavirus as well. Also in past years you would receive in the box a sticker to be placed on a refrigerator doornoting a month and time line when to change out your filter. Not anymore.David

This is a the real deal, brand product that works with our fridge. Very happy it's available. It's the right quality for a good price. The convenience of delivery just makes it more valuable. Water tastes good and the family is healthy. Very glad i bought this here and i will likely buy another once the cycle for the current one ends.

Replaced the last (same model) one. Kids will not drink it. It does seem to have a kind of sour grass taste to it, which is not present in our straight tap. This eau de sour grass was the reason we replaced the last one (after a long period of completely fine drinking water). I flushed through several liters before drinking it. Not sure what the deal is.

I thought they had sent me the wrong filter. It seemed too small and too short. I had a friend help me figure out that I had to save what I thought was the handle off the old filter to slip on to the new filter. That’s a pretty important little tidbit. The directions did not mention that.

Replaced the old filter we purchased at Sears with this filter and the water tasted horrible! We dumped the first few gallons, but the water is still bad and has s horrible after taste. Our old filter was about 5 months overdue for a change and our water tasted better with it than it does with the new one.
