The Full Monty [Blu-ray]

A British Comedy that also Touches on Serious Subjects
I liked this film when it came out at the theatre and I still like this film today. Besides being a great British Comedy, the film also touches on serious subjects such as unemployment, fathers' rights, depression, impotence, homosexuality, body image, blue collar class culture, and suicide. A film well worth seeing, especially if you keep an open mind when seeing it.

Fun movie to watch
For years, I've been introducing my wife to movies she's never viewed. She claims she can't sit still long enough to watch a movie, I've found she'll sit if it's an entertaining movie. The movie starts off slow as the plot builds but within a short time she was laughing so hard I had to put the movie on pause so she could catch her breath. Very entertaining and worth the time to watch.

A truly great film. You'll rent it for the feel-good comedy and the joy of watching a bunch of losers put together a chippendales show. You'll like for the attaching characters. You'll remember it from the more profound aspects of the movie as it analyzes the decline of masculinity in a post-industrial steel city. Much, much better than "The commitments", another movie about a band of misfits trying to make it big in the entertainment world.

Excellent Story Of Making Lemonade When Life Gives You Lemons
This is a story that is excellent for the imagination of some men who decide to put on a stripper show. It has sensitivity to the ones who were let go when the factory in town left. It could be any one of us, and though many would not go this far in getting some money to pay bills, yet the story rings with sympathy for any who find themselves out of a job for any reason.I think it shows not only the imagination of what can be done, but the difficulty to pull something like this off, and the respect that the son of the one who started the idea and was trying to carry it out, is touching. Having the courage to do something like this, and in front of others, even ones own son, also reaches down to anyone who has been in any hardship.

Funny
Good movie. I had already seen it before I purchased it and I got it to give to a friend as a gift. The only thing wrong with the copy I received was that it had subtitles in it which I was unable to remove while watching the movie which I found very annoying. And 4 of the language subtitles were in English - British English, Theatre English, etc. I didn't notice that it said swith ubtitles in the product description but it very well may have. If I had of noticed it, I wouldn't have bought it. It's still a good movie though.

The epitome of feelgood movies
This is stunningly constructed. The overall misery of widespread unemployment in a city which has lost its major industry sets the scene. The individual characters have their own, very different, problems. The narrative development leads to the happiest of endings, but with a superlative blend of sadness, worry and humour.I had good memories of this from its original release in 1997, but I did not recall it being quite as wonderful as it came across on this viewing.

A great laugh, entertaining and touching...
Saw this years ago, forgot how funny it is. Very entertaining, based on what seems like the goofiest idea ever. Shows how unemployment can make ppl have the courage to do anything esply for their wives and children. Love the relationships, esply the one with Gaz and his son Nathan. The relationship between Dave and his wife Jeanne is touching but even moreso is the one between Gaz and Nathan. Robert Carlyle is a riot and quite dreamy really. Highly recommend.

Yes, you'd probably want to watch it more than once!
Robery Carlyle is a talented gentleman. I've loved his work everywhere I've encountered it. The Full Monty is a riot. Who'd think a premise founded on grown men thrown out of work without prospects would lead to laughs but what they build on the premise is superb and is full of merriment. It is the human spirit at its indomitable best. And that Tom Jones song on which the picture closes is PERFECT.

Still relevant, almost timeless
When this first came out I was in two minds, it seemed a bit close to home (recent redundancy, not far from where the film is set) but I am glad I overcame my repugnance - this is hilarious, just as reported by a wide variety of colleagues. The film is not without a serious side, despair in particular is well covered from several angles, and though it ends on a high note the issues are only set aside for a while, they haven't gone away.It would be rather unfair to pick out individual performances, as the whole relies on gang-feeling whether of the women or even more of the men. That said the sub-plot involving Mark Addy and his 'wife' Lesley Sharp deserves a mention as particularly moving.Knowing exactly what is coming is no barrier to repeated enjoyment, and although this is 18 years old this year it has not dated much, well worth the modest outlay being asked.

Smashing!
This is a very affecting film about men suffering the shame of unemployment and lack of opportunity after the steel works close down. All personalities are sympathetic or humorous or both down to the small boy who gets involved in rehearsals for the stage event, I had seen the film before closer to when it came out. I admire the script and the lively Sheffield characters who provide the voices and the plot is well constructed. I saw more in the film this time round and think absolutely anybody would enjoy it.

it truly is one of the best British films ever made
Still to this day -and after seeing this film dozens of times- I laugh til I cry. My mum and dad in their late eighties watched this to keep their old age at bay, it truly is one of the best British films ever made.If you hear one of the songs in a shop, on the radio, anywhere- your feet start tapping and you visualize the scene. Absolutely brilliant.

The Full Monty, one of my favourite all tme films!
Hilarious, yet timeless classic that can be watched again and again. Superb acting by the whole cast, especially by Robert Carlyle in particular for 'losing' his normal everyday spoken very broad Glaswegian accent for a local one suitable for the film locality. The music is great from the beginning to end and the laughs keep coming, but it does have its poignant moments too. All in all, excellent entertainment for anyone aged over 15 and well deserving of the BAFTA award it won in 1997.
