The exception to all of this is Los Angeles county, where you cannot carry a blade longer than 3", and obviously you cannot carry it in government buildings, schools, hospitals, etc. in any county. The relevant California penal code is 21310, and Los Angeles ordinances 13.62.010 - 020

I use mine for work every day. It is a tool by definition. A knife has many purposes and not only for defense! It would never hold up in court with even a rookie lawyer!
