Updated 06/14/2013I use both single layer and dual layer DVDs to archive recordings of my church's worship services. We record both services each Sunday on a 1 TB iMac with the first service averaging 2-4GB and the second 5-8GB. I purchased these last year to begin an archiving project to free up disk space. All archiving was done using the same iMac DVD burner, and the iMac runs pure OSX with nothing other than Apple applications and our recording software.I've now gone through two of the 50-pack TDK dual layer disks, 50 Kodak, and 50 Optical Quantum. All three products had "unexpected errors" making the disk useless and requiring a new disk for the burn. Failures were spread across the disks with no two disks failing sequentially (except as noted below). Here is the success rate for the 3 products:This product (TDK)Total disks used=100; total failures=8 Kodak 50121 Double Layer DVD+R DL ย (Kodak)Total disks used=50; total failures=5 Optical Quantum DVD+R DL Double Layer Logo Top Spindle - 50 pack ย (Optical Quantum)Total disks used=50; total failures=8I also have now triedย Memorex 32020013382 8.5 GB 8 X Double Layer DVD+R - 50 Pack Spindle ย (Memorex), and experienced 3 failures in the first 3 burn attempts. I have added a separate review under that product with details. Since I didn't bother trying any more burns, I don't have a failure rate for 50 disks, but I definitely do not recommend the product since I was able to burn the exact same file successfully on the same drive using a TDK disk, after the 3 Memorex failures. During this time, only 1 of the 200+ Verbatim single layer disks I have been burning in the same burner have had such an error. I point this out to allow that the dual layer burn may be a factor in the rate of failures, rather than the actual disks. In one case, I had two sequential failures on dual-layer Optical Quantum discs when trying to use almost the full capacity of the disk, with the failures occurring near the end of the burn. After zipping the file, I was able to burn to another OQ dual layer disc successfully.Based on the numbers above, I can neither recommend or discourage purchase of these disks. Of the three, this product had a lower failure rate. I would like to compare the Verbatim dual-layer disks, but they are a bit pricier. I will continue to update this review as I test more brands. I hope these stats can help others make a decision on these disks.

Great for backing up DVD Collection.
I purchased these as I needed a DVD DL to backup my movie collection. I was very skeptical with all the reviews on various brands of dual layer discs and was fearful of getting and spindle of coasters. I successfully burned through all 50 discs with only one coaster. Not 100% success, but I'll take 1 corrupt out of 50 any day, considering each disc is about 50 cents a piece. I believe a lot of success is due to equipment used and patience. Below is all the components used to burn the disc, others may have different success rates but just trying to give my 2 cents to the community.Computer: Dell Inspirion 660s | Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit | 8GB Ramhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CRZI3NM/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Optical Drive: Pioneer Electronics USA Internal Blu-Ray Writer (BDR-209DBK)http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Electronics-Internal-Blu-Ray-BDR-209DBK/dp/B00H2GTXKS/neer++BDR-209DBKSoftware: ImgBurn[...]All DVD backups were made into image (.iso) files and then used Imgburn to burn the image to the disc. After some researching online I decided to lock in all the burn speeds to x6. I started out with the first 15 or so at x4 but then read and experimented with x6, which all burned fine, the one coaster was a human error. But as always, make sure all drivers are up to date on your hardware and that you mind your writing speeds. Not saying that x6 is what you should do, but it's what worked for me and got me a pretty much 100% success rate.

I use for recording TV and DVD burning also
Great for TV DVD recording ( I always use sp or sp stretch)For burning 3 hours and 40 minutes of Movies with a Panasonic DMR-EZ28 DVD recorder. These are great I can't afford to do this with Singapore verbatim.I had one or two bad ones in a row. But now I am at over 100 successful.I use this for DVD burning also. Not all movies deserve Verbatim. (to high priced for me at present)No problems at all burning at 2.4X on my computer Samsung DVD burner. I use to have occasional problems at faster speeds with DL disc's. So now I go slow with now problems. thinking slower must be better. Might last longer too.You might also try Vinpower Digital Vinpower Digital - JVC OQDPRDL08LT Optical Quantum 8X 8.5 GB DVD+R DL Double Layer Recordable Blank Media Logo Top they are cheaper and work better.Verizon is great with its fiber optic cable.Verbatim is better, But TDK is pretty good. I have no problems with TDK on my Toshiba, Sony, Panasonic, and Computer DVD player.A question of how many plays do you get out of a disc. I know you can wear out a verbatim disc after 3-15 times of use.

Great disks at great price
To the people complaining that these disks are all coasters...you need to learn about burning media. Most people burn on maximum speed. This is a big no no. Sure, it may take less time to burn, but 99% of the time if you burn at maximum speed it will not work in anything, sometimes not even your computer! Try burning it 4x - 8x MAXIMUM speed and you will not have one coaster in the bunch. It 5akes longer but it works better, and the quality is better too. I used to have a million bad disks no matter the brand, and each time I thought it was the disk, when it turns out I was burning too fqst for devices to read. You also want to be sure to be using proper software to burn. If you want a DVD, you need to use software that encodes media into something that can run in a DVD player, such as Nero Recode. Just flinging a bunch of files on a disk won't work. Before you judge a product, make sure it is not your fault first! Anyway great product, great price. I had 2 coasters both due to my own error. I will buy these again.
