Must have tool
If you're in the automotive trade, you will have to do more and more work into tearing down engines or changing out seals etc. This is a must have if you do DOHC etc. This is an easy, no fuss tool that locks into place and you muscle off the cam bolts or simply keep them steady as you tighten them on. It's a must have tool for any professional auto tech. And lets face it, most shops won't supply you with these types of tools and the expectation is that you have it. Buy it!

Tool is awesome! Used on 1991 Toyota 4R V6. SR5 3VZE 3.0 engine
This tool is awesome. I used it to hold each of the 2 camshaft sprockets in order to remove the 2 bolts on my 1991 4runner V6. If you are less than 6ft. tall & under 200lb., removing the bolts on the camshaft sprocket can be dangerous & scary. To remove the bolts, I inserted about 4 inches of the red handle of this tool to a 3 foot pipe ensuring that the pipe extends 1 foot past the fender where someone else can hold it safely and comfortably onto the camshaft sprocket while I cracked the camshaft sprocket bolt lose. Seriously you will hear the bolt crack lose & you will see the breaker bar bend so much that you will think it will brake...scary. I used a 1/2" drive breaker bar 18 or 25 inches in length with another 3 foot length pipe attached to the handel also ensuring that it went past the fender where I can safely stand behind while loosening the bolt. Warning: the bolts on 30 year old SUV's & trucks are super tight from the many years that it has been in the motor. In addition, it has been under intense heat for the same amount of years so the 2 bolts will be much harder to remove than to install & torque. It may be dangerous to remove the bolts so I advise to have 1 person hold the camshaft sprocket with this holding tool & a pipe extension while another person removes the bolt with a long breaker bar & a long pipe attached to it. The pipe extension length may varie depending on how tall you are and what weight you are. If you are 6 foot tall and 200 pounds, you will definitely not need to have the pipes in the same length. You may not need the pipe extensions at all. I have also used it to hold the camshaft sprockets to remove the bolts on a 1991 Miata. It wasn't necessary though since each camshaft has a special place to attach a crescent wrench to hold them for removing the bolts.

Could be better but it works!
Worked to remove my Cam sprockets, Bent the first one- which is why the stars are lower, on the bright side they were super fast on sending another one. Thank you! It works and will save you a headache for sure,Tip - helps to have two people when using this item.

Works good - with a little modification to work on Nissan VQ35DE (2003 Infiniti i35)
The tool is robust, and welds are very good. I had to grind down the 2 posts in order for the tool to fit through and grab onto the slots in the harmonic balancer (which have slots spaced 3" on center) on my 2003 Infiniti i35 with VQ35DE engine, as I was doing a timing chain/water pump replacement, and needed to hold the crankshaft in place while breaking loose the crank bolt . I also have a 2004 4Runner this will work on also (or so I have read), so well worth the cost.

This tool works for it's intended purpose, but there must be better
This tool works pretty well for it's intended purpose. It's a bit big and clumsy in the head, which can make it hard to use in some engines. On our Honda Accord, part of the left engine mount makes it a challenge to get the lugs in the pulley, but a bit of patience gets you there. On our Toyota there's a lot more room, so your results may vary. Once engaged, the pulley isn't going anywhere, as the tool is sturdy.Once I bought this, I realized that at the last timing belt change I did, I made a tool essentially the same of this from iron pipe fittings. I think it was about $10 in parts, and adaptable. A couple elbows, a tee, some short nipples and a pipe for a handle. That worked at least as well as this. Unfortunately, where that went is a mystery, and tool envy clicked the button. The unfortunate part about this tool is that the lugs are welded on and not interchangeable. On pulleys smaller than on the Honda 2.3L, I'm not sure the lugs would fit. This tool seems patterned off one which does have interchangeable lugs. It's made by Sir tools, model 2705. Of course, its considerably more expensive. The Lisle tool looks at least as good, although I was wary of the reports ob breaking. While this is an adequate tool, it leaves me with the impression of "it's OK." I think there are better solutions out there.

Could be thicker I think, but worked
Cam and Crank bolts removed OK. I had this baby chained down and went for it. It worked, but the thinness made me question it. I might weld something to the back of it and put some heat shrink on the nubs just for my piece of mind, but it worked, and I leaned on it and not the worse for wear. At least 30% of cost is only for the tool being unique I think.

Used for light weight crank pulley install.
This is a very handy tool for it's specific purpose. I used it to perform a crank pulley swap (installed a light weight one) and it worked great for taking off the OEM pulley. Had a friend use a snipe on the end of this unit for more leverage as the handle is maybe 2' long. Had to get creative when installing/tightening the light weight pulley as the holes did not line up with the pins. Had to use only one pin and brace the other against a casting on the engine but it worked. I guess the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the handle length and because it's not as versatile as other pulley holders with changeable pins and a swing arm to accommodate any hole configuration on a pulley. Great tool otherwise.
