Only one issue
This adapter is quite good, when it is seated properly. My tape deck has the tendency to start playback by moving the cassette just enough to cause the heads to go out of alignment (almost every time I start the car). If I put my finger on the top edge of the adapter and pull towards me and to the left, it will usually fix the issue, sometimes I have to wiggle it more. Otherwise, it sounds like a bad tape at best, a bad speaker system at worst. When it is working properly though, it sounds almost as good as a CD, with more background noise. I have my Sansa Clip mp3 player set to about half volume and I can get pretty loud without too much noise. I have to adjust the bass to full and leave the treble at about half to fully enjoy the sound, but it works. I should point out that I had Dolby NR on at first (less noise but horrible quality) and turned it off with much better results. I don't know if this is more an issue with decks or with the iMonster adapter (likely the size of the sensor on the head), but once it is working, it is easily better than other adapters I have tried. Hopefully, my suggestion will work for most. I have to be careful when I stick my finger in not to get it caught, but it sounds better than what I WAS doing which was running my Sansa Clip through PC speakers on a 12v inverter (not nearly as loud and hard to keep the speakers from sliding around). My car requires removing half the dashboard just to replace the stereo, so this option is plenty good enough for me.The cord is pretty good size for an adapter compared with others, but not as thick as the typical cord you would buy to connect an mp3 player to an aux input. It is 3 feet long, which is good for putting the mp3 player on the passenger seat, not quite long enough for back-seaters. I did notice the clicky-clacky noise that others have mentioned, but can only hear it when parked and no music is playing. Unless you're listening to a lecture in a parked car, I'm sure it won't be noticeable, but if it is, just look at the customer pics that show how to remove the gears (you'll need a small phillips-head screwdriver).

Works beautifully in my '98 BMW
If you're still an owner of a car with a tape deck without bluetooth, this is the easiest solution. For the better part of a decade I used one of the original Monster cassette adapters which worked beautifully. I found it much better than using one of the FM transmitters, which I've never been impressed with. After about 8.5 years of use, my original Monster Car Play adapter bit the dust -- but this was entirely from my abuse -- I wound up fraying the cord near the connector from putting undue strain on it accidentally.Anyways, enter the newer version. This one works identically to my old one, which in my given tape deck is extremely well. Coupled with my iPhone, Spotify Premium, and this tape adapter the old sound system in my late 90's BMW sounds very clear and crisp, without any unexpected amplification or attenuation of anywhere along the frequency spectrum. I've had previous tape deck adapters that somehow managed to erase all the bass, or the treble, or a combination of somewhere in between.A few improvement to this one vs. the old model:- The audio connector is reinforced and no longer at a right angle. I this this is a HUGE improvement, as the only thing on this that has the potential to break is the cord. Given that most of the cord strain occurs at the plug, I think this should go a long way to ameliorate these issues.- The "gears" on this one turn, and are quiet. My old one had gotten noisy. A few reviewers made comments that this thing made a lot of noise while it was turning inside the tape deck. Given that this is essentially just for show, you can crack open the plastic case and take out the little plastic gears -- the sound transfer apparatus has no moving parts and is therefore quiet.Cons:- None to speak of. A few other reviewers have noted problems with their unit. I would guess it is more just an incompatibility between this unit and their car tape decks.Highly recommended, especially for the price.

What a Joke
I've used so many tape adapters and all of them have been junk, until one day I bought the Monster iCarPlay Cassette Adapter (just the regular one, not the 800 which is the one I'm reviewing here). You can find what I'm talking about here: [...]I was so happy to finally have a tape adapter that actually sounded GOOD. Sure, the thing started clicking after a year, but they all seem to do that, and it's easily drowned out with music. Then, recently, after using it for probably a good 3-4 years, the cord got pulled weird and it tore a little. So, I went in search to purchase another one, and came across this new Monster iCarPlay Cassette Adapter 800. It's like $5 more than my old one, but it seemed like it might be a better product.I just received it today, and wow. What a disappointment. It's no better than the $10 Belkin tape adapter. "Tingy" sound, low bass, and all mids. It doesn't make clicking noises, but it sounds so @#%&ing mediocre. I figured since it's the most expensive tape adapter I've come across, it might possibly be even better than my old one, but this is not so. So stay away from this thing. Get the regular Monster iCarPlay tape adapter (again, not the 800), since it'll at least sound the best. Remember, they're ALL going to making clicking noises after a while. Trust me on this, so you might as well get the one that sounds the best.

P-p-p-arty like it's 2001.
Oh yes. my vehicle has a tape deck. As a matter of fact, it has a tape deck AND multiple disc changer. Wait...wait, OH SNAP, it also has a VCR player in the rear console, awoooooot.Yes, this is all true. In late 2014, I procured a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan that was preloved, predented, and had some shall we call it, deferred maintenance. Some personal time and resources later, it's running pretty snazzy, but the one thing that I did miss was the ability to plug my Android device (Moto G to be exact) into an auxiliary jack so I can sing along to the young people's music, like that Nick Lachey fellow. For reference, my primary vehicle is my 2006 Suzuki SV 650, so I was really just looking to get a cheap vehicle that was already beat up that I could take camping. While I do really like riding year round, my wife can't give me a ride each time the weather is really horrible, or each time the bike needs maintenance since our work schedules don't match up that well.I chose this particular model because it seemed to have decent reviews, and I was particularly intrigued by the ability to move the cord around to best fit the layout of my tape deck. At 16$, it wasn't the cheapest option out there, but I am very satisfied with the purchase for the following reasons:- As mentioned above, the ability to move the cord around makes this easily transferrable to my next car, which is fo sho going to be an '88 Cutlass. Kidding, or maybe not.- The ambient background noise is like a low hum/whirring. When those Backstreet Boys are pitching their sweet slow woo at low volumes, the whir is noticeable but not unpleasant. I'd imagine it'd almost the right frequency so that you could fall asleep to it, like pink noise (yes, pink since the frequencies modulate), so you shouldn't just listen to the whir when you're tired.- This is probably more of a function of your stereo system, but the audio quality is surprisingly good. When Vanilla Ice sings that ballad "Love Song", I get all tingly on the inside because well, he's the I-C-E. Plug this sucka into one of those old school multi system decks with the giant wooden speakers, and you could have yourself a SWINGING good time.- The purchase allows me to make ridiculous references to people, groups, and things that no one remembers, and especially to songs that no one remembers. Honestly, if any of you know "Love Song" by Vanilla Ice, you have way way way way too much time on your hands.Overall: Nothing is perfect, and this commodity is no exception. Wish it were a few bucks cheaper and/or a little quieter, but I have no real complaints. Party on.

Zero mechanical noise! Best purchase I've made! Saved me $100!
I was getting starting to get sick of the silence in my car, and I can't stand commercials so I don't listen to the radio. I have Google play on my mobile phone, but I feel like I'm stressing out the phone speaker. My options now being; Buy another cheap crappy tape adapter, or buy a whole new deck with 3.5mm AUX jack or Bluetooth. I've been through 3 or 4 tape adapters now, and from those experiences I was seriously considering spending $100-$150 for a permanent solution to this music/silence issue. Realistically, I don't have the kind of money right to be dishing out Benjamins for luxury. I hated the idea of spending another $10-$20 on another adapter that's loud, sound terrible, and will inevitably break at the jack cord in 2-3 months. That being said, I had to give Monster a try. For $10 bucks? Why not. From my experience with Monster they produce nothing but quality. They didn't disappoint this time either. This adapter is rock solid in every aspect. The cable quality is second to none, and I don't see it being a problem ever. The sound quality is phenomenal, and there is no distortion even with your device max volume. Now my absolute favorite part has to be how QUITE it is!! It's dead silent always. It's extremely important to me that a silent break in a song isn't being drowned by the turning of a tape adapter. I see no reason what so ever, for me to spend hundreds of dollars now that my problems are solved with a simple $10 purchase.Hands down the best purchase I've made on Amazon.

Not What I Was Expecting
I recently purchased this product to replace an Insignia Cassette Adapter I had picked up at Best Buy a few months ago. I was happy with my previous cassette adapter - the sound quality and volume were excellent, design wasn't anything out of the ordinary - however, the unit only cost about $10, so naturally some of the parts used to manufacture the Insignia cassette adapter were not very high end. Long story short, the cable in my adapter would short out so frequently that it wasn't worth keeping in my car any longer. That's when I bought this one.I have used other Monster Products in the past and always been happy with their top notch performance. This product, though, seems to be an outlier. The moment I began using this adapter, I noticed something seemed off. I flipped through a few songs on my phone's library and was incredibly disappointed to find that the sound quality on all of them was noticeably gargled and, simply put, not very good. The next morning, I flipped through the owner's manual and found a note under the setup that briefly explained how to reposition the cable. The cassette player in my car is oriented so that the cable initially came straight out, however, I repositioned the cable to the second notch to try to improve the sound quality. What I found is that the sound quality definitely improved after repositioning the cable, but the cable is now pinched between the cassette player and the cassette itself. This seemingly minor issue has already begun to wear away at the cable and has made it difficult to properly eject the cassette. All this being said, I would highly recommend looking for another cassette adapter or considering alternative solutions, such as connection via auxillary cable or wirelessly via Bluetooth.

Works just fine!
I own a near mint condition mid 80s Cadillac with a killer sound system, but only an AM/FM cassette player to play music. I have wanted to upgrade the sound system for a while, but didn't want to ruin the OE aspect of the car (original equipment) and reduce its value. I heard from a friend about these Cassette Adapters and started an exhaustive search through the consumer reviews here on Amazon. Like everybody else, I suppose, I started with the "1 star" reviews, and worked my way up. It seems the major complaint is the fact that the cassette players auto-reverse function chokes on the tapeless cassette and spits it out. My tape deck has an auto-reverse function, so this happened to me about 3 minutes after I first put the adapter in. It seems that the cassette player is designed to grab ahold of the cassette, pull it in, and use pressure on the tape inside the cassette to hold it in. There isn't any tape inside the cassette, so........ All I had to do is press the cassette firmly into the player so it seats completely, and....TaDa! no problems. Every time I put it in, I just give it a little extra push, and there is no problem. If I don't, it chokes on it and spits it out. The next major complaint was that the cassette made a lot of noise when it is in the player. Um.....Cassette players make a lot of noise, always have, always will. That is what the music is for. Unlike CDs, Cassettes have moving plastic parts rubbing against each other. If you do not believe me, put a blank cassette into your player and listen. Well then, Tron (you ask) why did you pick this one? When I got sick and tired of reading reviews, this was the one I ended up on. In my opinion, the are all decent products. They aren't complicated enough to be poorly made. Just a note: If you buy this one, put it into the player "label side" down. I don't know why, but it seats easier in the player for some reason. But it still works "label side" up.

Best sounding mp3 adapter I could find, but then it broke
I've literally tried dozens of different tape adapters for my mp3 player for using in my car. Almost every single one sounded awful, even after tweaking the EQ on my mp3 player (Sansa Fuze). I unfortunately don't have an auxillary jack in my car (2002 Nissan Maxima w/Bose), so I needed to find a solution. I despise everything about the Monster brand, but thought at least it might be decent quality.Low and behold, I was right. This is the highest quality, best sounding tape adapter for an mp3 player I can find. The sound quality is not the same as listening with an auxillary input, but it's good enough for what most people would need. There is no humming or low level buzz like a lot of other adapters. It's got the thickest cord of any I've tried and a very solid attachment to my mp3 player.Yes, you can get other tape player adapters for one dollar. And this is seventeen times the price. But quality wise, nothing beats this one. To me, that's worth the price.*ADDENDUM 8/15/11The tape adapter now doesn't play sound consistently through my car speakers. Usually it plays through only one speaker, or through both but at 10% of the normal volume. I have been ejecting it and re-inserting which helps sometimes, but most of the time I'm just super frustrated. Now I have a barely functional tape adapter that lasted only one month. Unbelievable.

bon produit
