Can you mount it on a wall?

I chose not to use screw mounting and use the large command strips (4 strip points) on the back so I do not wall damage. They hold 16lbs which is enough for the protector and the force of the cords that weigh on it.

What is the dimension of the base? the width in the specs doesn't look right.

Length=13in. Width= 4.125in. Depth=1.375in.

If you need the phone and coax protection, I would recommend the new one. However, I did not require those features when I purchased this model. I suggest you buy the product that provides the features you will use. The one I bought is adequate for my needs and I am very pleased with it.

Does this unit have a on-off switch?

Yes it does. On the end of the unit near the power cable there is a rocker switch that will turn the strip on and off.
