I received my book from Goodwill Colorado Springs within a few days of ordering it. It was in excellent condition. I highly recommend them.

This is reading to awaken and open one's mind to see, feel, and hear what we are surrounded by as we live our days. These memories amazingly draw the reader into provoking journeys of the senses that caused me to reflect not only about nature, but even the assembly of the Boeing 747 and its connection to the world's air freight. The author's insights about the world around us has stimulated my senses for years, and the second reads give me the same sensations that I experienced the first time I picked up any of Mr. Lopez's books. Barry Lopez remains among the top 10 of my favorite authors.

Barry Lopez reminds one a bit of Oliver Sacks in terms of his ability to draw global conclusions about the human experience from the subjects of his investigation.And like the better non-fiction writers today, he brings the story-telling skill of a fine novelist to the art of narrative non-fiction. The introduction is an exceptionally fine piece of writing.Highly, highly recommended.

Rather pompous

Thoughtful, if I had to choose one word to sum up Lopez's writing, would be my selection. He doesn't' merely present a series of images and situations; he traces the significance of his moments to their wider impact on the world. Keep repeating beauty and purpose; never forget their importance.

Scenes from Lopez's essays have stayed with me for years. The range of interests he writes about are broadly edifying and delivered in the most eloquent prose. You are at once educated, transported, and left pondering deep questions. This collection of his essays is my favorite.

This collection of various essays offers a wonderful insight into Barry Lopez and his poetic writing. The essays vary from his adventures across the world: freighter Boeing 747s around the world; scuba diving in the Galapagos; a short memorial to roadkill animals he has come across; studying wolves up close in northern Alaska.If you are at all interested in travel, environmentalism or wildlife then I cannot recommend this book enough!

Barry Lopez has become one of my all time favourite authors....I chose this book and another one, after discovering Arctic Dreams which I chanced on browsing in a second handbook shop.Amazon is very useful but it can never replicate the serendipitous, haphazard experience of just chancing on a wonderful new writer.

Lopez writes beautifully, whatever the subject may be. This collection of wide-ranging essays I found captivating; fortunately, there are other titles by this master of the essay to explore. Time with a barry Lopez book is time very well spent.
