In 1928, in a mistaken identity case, he killed a British police officer for he had to flee Lahore, where he was staying, to escape the death penalty. Later, in 1929 he along with others threw a bomb at the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi to protest against the Defence of India Act. He later surrendered. He was hanged for the murder of a British police officer at the age of 23. On March 23, 1931, he was hanged to death in Lahore Central Jail.Singh is credited with popularising the catchphrase — Inquilab zindabad. He has also worked as a writer and editor in some newspapers on Marxist theories as well as written a few books including Why I Am an Atheist.

Inspiring
Mera Rang De Basanti Chola is a song penned down by ram Prasad Bismil.Bhagat Singh was a 23-year-old man who sacrificed his life for the independence of India at a young age. His name is enough to fill the youth of the country to boost their confidence and give them strength for being patriotic to the country. Rajguru, Sukhdev, and Chandrashekhar Azad were a few names that we read about, but the book goes on to describe more of these freedom fighters in a crucial and significant way.In this book, the author has narrated stories from birth to the martyrdom of the young freedom fighter. The narration has been done incredibly inspirationally. Anyone who wants to understand the young freedom fighter better, can read this book.
