Tenq USB Programming Cable for Baofeng Uv-b5

Cable is good. SW on disc is bad.
There are a lot of comments in the Baofeng user community regarding which programming cables work, and which ones to avoid. I am using this programming cable with my UV-B5 and UV-B6 with good success. However, be advised the little CD with SW for the cable was useless for me. I had to let Win7 look for the right driver on the Microsoft website. It took about 5 minutes, but it did find the right driver and installed it. After that I was able to use the Chrip app to program my B5. Chrip currently (March 2014) doesn't support the B6, and I couldn't trick it into thinking it was just another B5. I went to the Baofeng website and installed their programming app. It is working fine for both the B5 and B6 using this programming cable.

Works as expected; Time saver.
Works as advertised, for the UV-B5.Works just fine with Chirp software. No issues or errors, as with some of the other, generic / less expensive cable choices. No causing a blank transmit / key-down condition on the radio when connected, as with some of the other, generic / less expensive cable choices. It helped me to quickly program my radio, and save a backup of said programming. I foresee this cable as a great asset for when I travel, helping to quickly adjust the radio's programming for the areas I will be travelling through and to... as needed.

Driver problems
Driver problems - this is not just a cable, it contains a USB to serial bridge chip in the USB plug. When I plugged it in, it identified itself as a Prolific brand USB to serial bridge and loads the latest, certified drivers from windows update. However, the cable did not work. I found some information online stating if you have a counterfeit cable, you need to manually download these unsigned drivers dating dating from 2007 for the cable to work.Naturally, that's not a good user experience, and if it is indeed counterfeit, the manufacturer has stolen someone else's idea and selling it on their own. Unsigned drivers downloaded from some web site are a severe security risk and an easy way for a hacker to immediately and completely own your computer.

Does the Job
I'm not sure if it's the device drivers or the quality of the cable, but I have to unplug and replug this cable about 2 or 3 times to get a good serial connection with the software given.I don't regret the purchase .. for the price, I don't care that the one time every 6 months I might use this thing, I may have to unplug it a few times. I've read in online forums this isn't uncommon. Once you have a solid connection, it works great.

Works As Expected With Pofung UB-B5
Worked as expected, with my Pofung UV-B5 (bought March 2015) and CHIRP. On two occasions I got a "radio did not ack programming" error, but I just re-seated the cable into the handset to get it working again. I didn't bother with the CD, and used the latest build of the software from the internet.

Cable failed after only a few uses
After only a few uses, the cable failed with a bad internal electrical connection near where it connects to the radio.

Cable good-CD worthless
Neither the driver nor the programming software wanted to get my win-7 / uv-b5 setup going.Thankfully there are many sites (I used miklor) which support these radios. The cable is quite well made- and ultimately its what you're really buying here.

Good Cable, Bad Software
I purchased this cable to program my UV-B5 radio. The connection works fine, but you'll need to use the software drivers found online (http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php).
