Get ball end hex wrench to ease installation
Got this rack for my travel bike so I can take it off and on when packing bike in travel bag. It works as expected and I can put my trunk back on it to carry all necessities on longer rides vs. using a backpack. One thing I didn't like is the ratchet screws use hex key and there is no easy way to get one in there with more than a quarter turn UNLESS you use the ball end hex keys. Any cheap set will do the job and well worth it. Speeds installation and removal by noticeable difference. The rack itself is sturdy and stays put. I'm happy with my choice. Just did four 100k rides in a week with it and not one issue.

Not Hard to Install, but Play with the Rack First, then Look at the Cartoon Instructions
I think the design is excellent, and, unlike other reviewers, I find the materials first rate. I was pleasantly surprised that the rack fits on a full-suspension frame designed to accommodate four inch tires, though it's fitted with three inch tires. The seat stays are very far apart, but the rack was mounted without violence. All the crucial bolts came pretreated with thread lock. It's prudent to check them now and then after use. I ride some pretty bouncy stuff. If the bolts tend to loosen, I'll replace them with longer ones and add lock nuts.Users who report bolts breaking have probably over-tightened them.I decided that the silicone rubber inserts, which fall out easily while installing, are optional. I left them off. They are for people who dread their frame's paint getting marred.I don't expect the rack to slide down the stays while carrying a load on a rough road, but if it does, I'll update this review.UPDATE: After several hundred miles and lots of rocks, gravel, and washboard, everything is staying put without further servicing. Thule is being overcautious by claiming the rack won't fit tires wider than 2.6".

Love it! Quiet. Bad installation instructions.
Bought this cause my bike frame wouldn't work with others. Besides all other racks I've had make noise and are clanky. This looks great and is silent when hitting bumps. Like others have said the direction suck. I had to YouTube a review to find out how to use the key to loosen the straps. Once installed, it works perfect. Don't lose that little key that comes in the package, because I don't know how you'll be able to remove it if you need too.

fits my "special needs" trike
I have a folding recumbent trike and a conventional rack would be in the way. I wouldn't be able to fold it. I still have to take the rack off, but this one is easily removable and very well-built. Versatile, adapts to most angles on bikes and trikes. This is the only rack I've found that will work. Too expensive tho.

It works well, but it is still not worth the price.
Look, it kind of holds up, it's easy to install, but for a few reasons it's not worth the price. I can only guess that the manufacturer was expecting only a few people to actually want this type of tour rack, so they just kind of had an intern draw something up and they micromanaged the crap out of the design phase in order to get done. They then jacked the price up to give the rack the appearance of a quality product to compensate for it's poor design. That said, the construction is lightweight, but the materials are really cheap. The composite rack platform is just bad looking, like something that would come on a child's bicycle or something. The positioning arms that come with the tour rack are also chrome plated (why?) and are made of really thin cheap-looking steel. Both the radius bent structural rods that form the side and weight-bearing portion of the rack, and the keyed nylon webbing securing mechanisms are the only components that look like they were designed well with the end-user in mind. The chrome, steel grey, and flat black color combination appears to have been designed to look as bad as possible, while still maintaining brand identity. I can't think of any color frame that would look good with this strapped onto it. All in all -- it works, but only because there really aren't any other racks like it on the market.

easy install; multiple adjustments
converted 2006 gary fisher hoo koo e koo 26” mtb into rugged in-town/suburban errand and grocery bike.saw thule setup at bike meetup on mtb w no lugs/eyelets. admired. nifty. needed similar circumvention: researched, read reviews.so bought same thule product.easy, easy install, even without reading installation directions.however, took much fiddling, experimentation, adjusting, guesswork, rack-of-the-eye, and multiple configurations to get side-to-side, fore-aft alignment/height/positioning to my satisfaction.added thule side frames to prevent pannier and spoke, disk brake, and gear interference.added thule extensions to move panniers rearwards to stop shoeheel striking panniers.went w vaude panniers instead of thule based on reviews.

It appears this rack can be installed on just about any bike.
A shout out to the Adventure Cycling Association. I read a recent article in Adventure Cycling about a retired couple who traveled the country on e-bikes with the Thule racks installed on the front of their bikes. I have three touring bikes, including an e-bike and the Thule rack and side rails were just what I was looking for my Trek. Installation was a bit challenging but doable. I haven't tested it under load yet but I was pretty pleased with how it went together and how sturdy it appears. If it works well under load, then kudos to the engineers on another well planned Thule product.
