Review: Solid compact keyboard and Corsair quality - This is a compact keyboard without the 10 numeric keys (a.k.a. 10-keyless), and the key switches used are called Cherry MX RED. A little research showed that the Cherry switches of various colors denote different key travels, pressures and tactile feedbacks, and they are made by a German company (Cherry MX) with extensive testing and quality control. I thought I'd try this one over a myriad of low cost keyboards. Corsair is a name I came to trust over the years for power supplies, memory and USB drives. The keyboard came with a shipping label slapped on the display box, without any additional packaging outside. The keyboard arrived fine, but I think I will request an desertcart box next time just in case, by checking an option during checkout. The keyboard has a substantial feel to it, heftier than the full size OEM keyboards one often sees. This version has only red lights and not the rainbow colors. The key travels are smooth and quiet without clicking. Of course on bottoming depending on how hard you mashed it, it will make some noise. The RED switch has an operating force of 45g (while some others are 60g). The 4 mm bottoming travel seems just a tad long than common OEM keyboards, but one can get used to it easily. Another Cherry switch would be the Brown, which has the same operating force but will give a tactile bump at 2 mm with the same 4 mm bottoming travel. Maybe I will try the Brown some time. The iCUE software (need to download from Corsair's website), allows adjustment of LED brightness and other functions. The default lighting "pattern" is a sweeping column of light like a wave in a sports arena going from left to right and back again. A button allows the LED to be turned off or adjusted to one of 3 intensity levels. Another button turns off the "Windows" key so the Windows Start Menu does not pop up and block your view in the middle of a game while you are playing. Overall I am impressed with the quality of this keyboard.
Review: Love it. A must for all-day-typers - So I'm not a computery guy. I mean, I don't like them. Mostly I associate computers, electronics, gizmos and doo-dads with frustration. I'm old at heart, and have to put on my reading glasses to plug the tiny usb thing into my phone. Despite this dislike of computers, I do type a lot. I don't profess to do it well, but I write a lot, which means hours and hours of typing daily. I mentioned off-hand to a friend that I hated how cheap keyboards felt, and how I was always bumping the wrong key. I guess I never thought to look into what upgrades were available. Anyway, he mentioned looking into mechanical keyboards. I researched a bit, learned a few things about switches and their types, and the Brown switches seemed to be right for me. Unfortunately, I wanted "tenkeyless", mostly so the keyboard as an object sat more center at my desk, without the additional 6" off to the right. I couldn't find a brown-switch tenkeyless keyboard I liked that had good reviews and was in the price tier I sought. There were a few cheap ones, but I doubted I'd find the improvement there I wanted. So I bought this guy. I love it. The keys are so much more satisfying to press, and the flow, when I hit it, is awesome. I worried a bit about the sound, but it's a very low, mechanical sound, not a click, not a higher tap, and it bothers neither me nor my work-at-home wife in the next room trying to spreadsheet. Perfect. It's sturdy, too. That might be my favorite thing about it. I pulled it out of the box and thought, "This has a keyboard in it?" It was quite hefty. A few of the keys had popped off during shipping, but that just goes to show how easily they can be removed for cleaning. I pushed them back on effortlessly. Can't recommend it enough. A typist's dream, and the upgrade everyone who types all day should make. I didn't game on it, but I can't see why that wouldn't be enjoyable.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it possible to turn the backlighting completely off?**
A: Yes. There is a button that cycles through 3 levels of brightness and then to Off. The backlighting pattern also can be controlled via downloaded software.

**Q: Does the K63 come with any extra key caps?**
A: NOPE and when you lose one you're kinda screwed. Gotta replace important keys with less important keys

**Q: Can you change the switches to a diffrent switch like a blue switch?**
A: Probably. I had a K65 and one of its switches died. I had to disassemble the keyboard and solder on a replacement switch; it worked well after that. I expect you could do that and switch red with blue.

**Q: Works with xbox one?**
A: Yes

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Compact Keyboard
*by M***Y on December 11, 2018*

This thing is really awesome for the price. I've been looking at switching to a ten-key-less keyboard for about a year, and this one fit the bill. It is replacing a Razer Blackwidow 2012 with cherry mx blue switches that finally annoyed me enough to be replaced after it drank another gin and tonic and didn't come back to life unscathed. I kind of miss the blue switches, but the red are a lot more silent and better for the desktop mic that I have. I chose Corsair because I was tired of Razer's software, and they don't use real Cherry switches anymore. I bought my brother in law a Corsair keyboard a couple of years ago and was really impressed with the build quality and the functionality that they achieved without having obnoxious broken cloud software to keep the keyboard working (looking at you razer; it seriously baffles me how they simultaniously produce some of the best hardware and worst software to cripple said hardware). I am familiar with the build quality because of the 3 times that my sister has asked me to repair her husbands keyboard. First because it drank a glass of wine, then a jack and coke, and finally a whole bottle of wine (keyboards in my family have a drinking problem, don't ask). What was really impressive about the time it drank a bottle is that my sister was in Vegas at the time, and when she called to ask what to do I told her to unplug it and put it in a box and I would see what she could do when she brought it home. 3 months later she finally got it to me and it was moldy and nasty. I disassembled it, soaked it in alcohol overnight, scrubbed vigorously, and rinsed liberally with distilled water. After reassembly and lubricating the switches you wouldn't know that it had been through such terrible treatment.
