This is a great comforter, perfect for spring/summer in New England. Yes this is very flat and crunchy sounding when first opened- wash it cold water, gentle cycle using gentle detergent-then dry with tennis balls on low heat, periodically stopping to take out and fluff. The cotton shell softens up and the crunchy sound is not as loud but is still there ( I love the crinkly sound ). My winter comforter is the Apsmile heavyweight 650 fill with only 10% feathers as opposed to this one which has 90% feathers. I thought because of that, this one would have prickly feathers poking at me and I would be able to feel the rough feathers on the inside. But I was wrong- the only difference I can feel is the weight- this is just as soft and fluffy as my winter comforter. For thirty dollars this was a bargain- Apsmile makes great comforters. Get It !
