Book contains inaccurate answers
I've found a few errors in this book, so beware. For example, Question 157: What is the maximum tax credit for a single filer claiming the retirement Savings Contribution Credit? A) $500 B)$1,000 C)$2,000 D)$4,000. The correct answer is B, $1,000. The book tells me this: "The maximum credit for the Retirement Savings Contributions Credit is $2,000 for single filers and $4,000 for Married Filing Jointly." No, those numbers are for the maximum contribution considered, with the max credit being 50% of that. This isn't the only example I can quote. The solution to question 152, for instance, tells me that the same student can take both the American Opportunity Tax Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit. Again, no. You can't use the same student and the same expenses to claim both credits in the same year. The book has forced me into serious research of the information, however, since I don't have tremendous faith in its accuracy.
