With a delicious, sweet flavour and a firm texture, the berries of Raspberry 'Cascade Delight' are ideal for eating fresh in summer desserts or for making preserves. 'Cascade Delight' produces an abundance of large, conical berries, which are notably larger than traditional varieties. You can harvest your crops from July onwards and they will keep well after picking. This summer fruiting variety shows particularly good resistance to root rot, and copes well in wetter soils where other varieties fail to thrive. Grow summer fruiting raspberry plants in a sunny position in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. The stems of these long-caned summer fruiting raspberries will require support. Before planting, prepare a framework of wires stretched horizontally between two sturdy 1.8m (6') posts. When growing raspberries in containers, support their tall stems on a wigwam of canes. Plant raspberry canes against their supports, allowing a distance of 60cm (24") between plants. Water well. Summer fruiting raspberries fruit on the previous seasonโs growth. Leave unpruned after planting. This cane will go on to produce fruit next summer, at the same time, new shoots will grow from the roots. Once fruit has been picked the original cane should be removed and the new shoots left to grow to produce fruit the following year. Only 1 alive out of 3 canes.
Ordered 3 canes and it appears only 1 is alive. The 2 that seem dead, have hardly any root. Disappointing.
