A major help for growing in self-knowledge
"Rooting Out Hidden Faults" is an excellent study of the behavior traits people have that lead them to behaviors that disrupt their relationships with others and with God (traditionally called sins). But it is not a scolding book. Rather it is uplifting and compassionate and, after helping guide the reader into identifying his/her faults, It shows one how to change one's problematic behaviors, also called vices, not just by struggling to stop the faults, but also by learning to practice behaviors that are the opposite of the faults, called virtues (e.g., conquer selfishness with generosity, pride with humility, etc.). Examples are given of how to do that, and what virtuous behavior would look like. For those Christians looking to grow in holiness, much attention is given to the spiritual reality involved in conquering faults. All of this is presented in easy to understand concepts and a clear and easy reading style. This book is a sure help to those striving to be better human beings and better Christians (which is two ways of saying the same thing!). I highly recommend it.

Taught me to look at the Cross and Meditate well!
It uses mediation upon the Five Wounds of Christ in order to examine your life. It made me realize how much I take for granted in my life and it has helped me “know myself” (as Augustine says). I’ve learned more about my faults and failing and how to correct it from this book than any other spiritual reading that I’ve done. Thank you Bishop Sanborn!

Been waiting to get this one.
Particular Examin of Conscience is a tough practice to write about because some authors make sound to difficult who would try and others would make it sound so simple, why would one buy a book on the subject.Yet, this author has hit it right down the middle. Giving good chapters to reflect upon while keeping it simple so people won't become confused or discouraged.Thank you.

Instructive
I would say this book is for the serious Catholic looking to delve deeper into their spiritual faults. I think it was written more for religious but it’s also practical for laypeople such as myself. I’ve found it instructive and inspirational.
