I purchased the VCX NANO to program a used GM Navigation radio. The donor radio came from a 2012 Tahoe & I was installing it in my 2013 Silverado. Since it came from a different vehicle with a different VIN, the radio displayed "LOCKED" because the VIN programmed in the donor radio did not match the VIN in the BCM of my truck. Also, the speaker options, backup camera, rear entertainment options, etc were different on my truck & the radio needed to be programmed for my truck's specific setup. Following is a description of the device, software, & how I used it. The device itself is a good replica of the GM Bosch MDI2 Interface & J2534 Programmer. This is the device that GM uses to interface with their modern vehicles but is backwards compatible to older vehicles. It has the ability to connect to the various modules inside the vehicle (door switch, BCM, ECM, RADIO, remote key entry, & more), read module information, reset fields, & program the module if used with an AC Delco Service & Programming Subscription (SPS). Also included in the box is a CD with replica GM software; Tech2Win, GDS2, GM MDI Manager, & VCX Manager. The Tech2Win is an emulator for the old GM Tech2 handheld device that was in use from the mid 90’s up until about 2013. It can run standalone by itself. Global Diagnostics 2 (GDS2) replaces the Tech2 & is what dealerships use for troubleshooting today. GDS2 is a subscription service, but here it is packaged into a virtual machine that the seller has created, allowing GDS2 to run without buying a subscription from AC Delco. I don’t think the GM MDI Manager is used, but the VCX Manager has to be open for the other software to work correctly. I think it provides the interface to trick the software into working with cloned hardware. All of the software is cloned GM stuff & has been altered to allow it to run the MDI clone. Not included on the CD is the ability to do any programming of new or used modules. To program, you have to get a subscription from AC Delco TDS which allows you download & flash the programming calibration files. The subscription you’re looking for is a Service & Programming Subscription (SPS). I paid $40 for 24 month access, but it only allows programming of 1 specific vehicle, and is $40 per each vehicle you wish to program. The programming is done through a Java based app, & I ended up turning off every security feature under the Java control panel to get it to run. Using the programming Java app, I was able to update the used radio to match my truck’s specific RPO codes. However, the radio was still locked since the VIN in the radio didn’t match the truck. Here is where I got stumped for a bit. GM released a bulletin in 2008 (#PIT4007D) that basically said to use a Tech2 to invoke the built in VIN relearn command on radios that had been programmed but still had the old VIN. The only catch was that no matter what radio you were trying to reset, you had to select the options on your Tech2 for a 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LTZ to invoke the relearn VIN command. I tried with the included Tech2Win software but the command was not there, it was as if it had been removed. On a hunch, I searched for an older version of Tech2Win, downloaded it, and the relearn VIN option was there! It worked, I was able to remove the old VIN allowing the radio to marry to the new VIN. The included version was NAO V33.004 but the older version that allowed for VIN reset was NAO V30.004. I suspect GM purposely removed the VIN relearn command from the updated versions of Tech2Win to force you to go to the dealer for special VCI programming that’s only available after calling the GM Techline for dealers. SUMMARY I have left out a lot of steps that were necessary to get the software running correctly. I would recommend you only install it on an old computer that has no personal information, considering how all of the software provided is cloned software that instructs you to disable any firewalls\antivirus. However, once you get the software installed & running correctly, it’s an excellent device for diagnostics, maintenance, & programming.

Unfortunately this unit has drive compatibility issues. Not all operating systems will support it. The second issue which most people will be familiar with is the software needed gets flagged for virus's. You will need to use a virtual machine just to operate it. Its possible to get it to work but you are probably better off going into a dealer and spending $300 rather than the half a day it will take to get this programmer to work. This would be my recommendation unless you are very computer savvy and are going to use it multiple times.

As stated by others, this device is obviously a little sketchy and requires some technical know-how. However, you will find no cheaper alternative compatible with Tech2Win. Rest assured, if you install it exactly as described below you will find success - in fact, I just completed an automatic ABS bleed today with my 2500HD! Disclaimer: As indicated by others, viruses and hidden SW may lurk in the required files. However, my own scan with Kapersky did not flag any. Regardless, it is recommended to perform a fresh OS install on spare/burner PC for three reasons: 1) No personal files or info to worry about 2) Windows 7 Professional 32-Bit is required. If you don't already have it, you will need to get it and perform a fresh install. There are many documented failures from attempting to use Windows 10, Win 7 64-bit, etc - proceed at your own risk. 3) Lastly, if you think you can get away with running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit inside a Virtual Machine, think again - Tech2Win will crash while establishing vehicle connection (ask me how I know). Okay, on to the guide... 1) Perform fresh install of Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (x86). 2) Install drivers on your machine and all that good stuff. 3) Fully update windows via Windows Updates (skipping this step may result in cryptic "missing .dll" errors during install). 4) Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2010 to avoid more .dll errors. 5) From VXdiagshop.com, download the latest versions of the following (do NOT use the USB key): -VX Manager -VXDIAG GM GDS2 -VXDIAG GM Tech2Win 6) Unzip/extract as necessary. Inside the Tech2Win folder, run AutoInstall.exe. 7) Inside the GDS2 folder, run AutoInstall.exe. Expect long wait times. Note that GDS2 may not strictly be required for Tech2Win but I installed it anyways. 8) Install VX Manager - select PassThru & GM. 9) Plug in VCX Nano. Windows will automatically find and install the USB driver as long as step (8) has been completed 10) Launch VX Manager. VCX Nano should now be recognized. If not, unplug and re-plug back in, restart VX manager, restart the computer, etc. It will show up eventually. Note that an OBD connection is not required at this time. 11) Go to Diagnostic tab at top. Double click "GM GDS2/T2W" and hit Install. Do the same to PassThru if it doesn't already have a green checkmark. 12) Plug in to your vehicle. 13) Launch Tech2Win with VX Manager still open in the background. Tech2Win It should prompt you to select your communication tool in a popup window - pick GM MDI (not MDI 2). It should then pause and prompt you again, this time with one option - a string of numbers and "USB". If it does not prompt twice, close Tech2Win and try again. 14) Hit OK at the second prompt. That's it - Tech2 emulation is running and you should be able to communicate with your vehicle. Who knew it could be so simple!? /s Jokes aside, I've had fairly good luck pulling data and performing special functions with this since I got it working. However, I have experienced sporadic disconnects, which may be due to my laptop's USB 3.0 ports. Might try a USB 2.0 expansion card in the future to see if that improves stability. Good luck to you - hope the guide was helpful.

Buyer Beware! This is the same product that sells for a bit less! Does not contain anything related to TISWEB ! So, I actually got took, should have gotten the WiFi Version, and still saved $10.00...So buyer Beware! Straight up, do your homework! (These Folks do have a website, aside from Amazon, which has a ton of info. as well as some of the Newer Versions of the VX Manger, which you do need. However, it can update on itself) Actually, this Unit, does work just like a "GM Tech2" unit! From a good tablet, a laptop, or drag the Desktop out to where you are working... Gives you a complete, OEM, solution to, the Famous, and rather Pricey, Tech2, right in your hands. I Have installed the software, (Several times..) I do still get some error, regarding MDI But the Tech2Win, works as it should. Beware though, Any "Anti-Virus" programs, WILL See this as a Serious Threat (My case- Norton, pretty much crashed the programs, due to it being "Cracked". My Issue, did come into play, way after using it. Glad to know Norton does work, However, I must reinstall some of the Programs, in order for it to work again. Still trying to get a work around, through some of the setting in Norton, Hopefully I can make a "OK" Rule in Norton....) Now, In my case, Have '03 Yukon XL, Had issues the HVAC system.... Was not going to just start replacing parts (waste of $$$, and time. plus still not find the issue at hand).... I used this, with my Laptop, (which I am not looking for a small 2 in 1, touch screen that can use, Just for This...) After Firing up the Laptop, then plug this tool in, Bam... I have Tech2Win, running, right here in front of me. It is a bit different then using the Actual GM Tech2, (meaning Instead of holding it in my hands, and touching buttons, I Use a mouse, while looking at a much Larger Display screen) Now, I went though the Program, and was able to "Test" every Module in the Front HVAC... it was the Door Module. Which I did happen to already purchased. In a very short time, I had this working correctly !!! Even though, I had paid a bit more that I should have, (yep, Not too happy about that) I still saved funds, from what the Dealer quoted me, just to Diagnose the issue, and NOT do the work itself!!! Love the fact it actually does run an updated/cracked Version of the Tech2win! A tool, you will need, in just about every GM car/truck built after 1998!!! Plus, you get all the OEM codes, that you do not get in ANY OBDll scan tool off the shelf! Have not had to update any Modules, (PCM, BCM, ECU etc...) But, Very happy that I can do that as well. Without the huge cost of a Dealer Pricing ! P/S- just to test this... I Had even used this on a 2013 GMC, and yes, GDS works as it should too!!! Edit- May 2020- Want to pass along some more info- After Shutting off Norton , and reinstalling the programs that Norton crashed! I Still working as it should! Very happy to know, Still not having any issues, using this on My GM Vehicles .... Re-Edit... 05Mar22... Have the need to really depend on this Tool, that I have not really used too often. Once an issue IS fixed, I tend to move on....But, Seeing how I Still have the GM Vehicles, I still need this Tool. After starting Program, it let me know that there is an update... I did Update the VX Manager as requested. Yep, Kool to know, I had an update and that this pricey plastic tool IS Still good, I can go and fix an issue. OH NO... I cant! With VX Manager Update.... Some How, I lost my Darn License for this Tool Have to figure this out.. Not real happy at the darn moment!!!
