Brazos Rustic Wood Walking Cane, Twisted Hickory, Derby Style Handle, for Men & Women, Made in The USA

It can be a very hard thing with which to come to terms, but I am at an age when a walking support, such as a cane or walking stick, can become useful, even necessary. Well, it turned out that the very first ones I looked at also happened to be the best ones. I’m talking about Brazos Walking Canes, and what they call their Derby Cane in particular. That’s the one I bought, and I am truly in love with it! It’s a beautiful beast of a walking cane/stick.In my view, the Derby Cane is THE BEST (as well as the slickest looking!), for one reason: hickory, Hickory, HICKORY!! We’re talking good ol’ Texas hickory at that! Hickory has unsurpassed strength, density, stiffness and shock resistance—all the virtues that I want in my walking cane. With a Janka hardness rating of up to 2,000 lbf, this makes it one of the very hardest and most durable woods in the U.S. Importantly (to my mind, at least), it also makes this walking cane a formidable weapon in self-defense situations (even though it’s not made specifically for that purpose). For whether using it defensively or offensively, it it VERY unlikely that it would ever break, because it boasts a tensile strength that rivals steel. (You read that right—steel!)No one would ever mistake it for a self-defense weapon, however, because it has such an elegant and rustic beauty. Honestly, it looks like a work of art, and it IS, for each one is hand made, hand carved, hand sculpted. (Each and every cane has a 2-page “tag” tied to the top of it, which includes, among other things, the name of the individual craftsman who made it. Mine, for example, was crafted by Daniel Anz, who had been working at Brazos for over 10 years. Excellent job, Daniel, and thank you for your skill and artisanship!)Perhaps needless to say, given all the individual attention and skill put into it, the cane is an absolute pleasure to hold. Holding it by the handle is extremely comfortable in the hand, as is holding it, say, mid-way up the shaft when just carrying it. Every part of the cane feels not only solid but silky smooth and luxurious.Each cane comes with a rubber stopper at its end, for greater stability and control. It can be removed (for example, if you needed to shorten the stick a bit), but I would encourage you to keep it on, especially for indoor floors and any slick surfaces outside. My stopper blends right in with the wood, so I barely notice it.The craftsmanship on the “Derby Cane” is so well done that it feels like a natural extension of my arm. And though it has a rugged look (that I really like), it nonetheless has a luxurious feel from top to bottom. It is worth every dollar I paid for it—in fact, given the relatively high cost of hickory wood, I would honestly consider this gorgeous cane a bargain!As you can no doubt tell, I have no constructive criticisms to offer. As an avid woodworker myself, I can find nothing to complain about. The craftsmanship is THAT good. And I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this very same walking cane again. The Brazos 37 inch hickory cane is a very sturdy, beautiful cane for those that need one. The hickory has a little heft and is a good choice for a medium to heavy individual. A small or weaker user may want to go with a lighter wood cane made by Brazos. I require a cane for mobility, and I own different kinds for different uses (formal, gym, etc..). I wanted one that was more rugged for casual, outdoor use, and this fits the bill. It is very attractive but also tough, and it comes with a lifetime warranty.The handle of the first cane I received became loose after a few days use, so I emailed Brazos about the problem. The handle and the stick are 2 separate pieces that are joined in production, and I guess mine had a flaw. Customer service apologized for the problem and quickly sent me a replacement. They had even cut the replacement to my specifications. It is very refreshing dealing with a company that stands by its product.

I get so many compliments on this cane. I wanted a wood cane and not metal. I was really glad when I found this one. I bought it too long. It was not returnable. No worries. it was easily trimmed to size. The cane is sturdy and looks to be well crafted. And I love that fact that Steve Martin's character in "Only Murders in the Building" has the same name as the cane. Not sure which came first. But it really doesn't matter.

too bad it had a large crack in the shaft. It's the 2nd cane that arrived cracked. The Brazos website sells them for $109. I wonder if the $50 Amazon versions are the QC rejects?Update: 3rd time was the charm, got a cane without cracks in the main shaft. Maybe the 1st two canes would have been fine, but I couldn’t risk a failure. Very nicely made with character and unique.+ NOT MADE IN CHINA!

I bought this for my aging father after some recent knee trouble. After a LOT of searching, this is one I settled on and couldn't be happier. USA, family owned company that puts out high quality products at reasonable prices. Arrived on time, no shipping issues. It was a little long, but after he unwrapped it I took it to the work bench downstairs and trimmed 1.25" off the bottom and put the rubber cap back on in about 8 minutes. Perfect fit after that.My dad loves it for several reasons:1) It looks great. Very stylish.2) It has some heft to it. He says it feels like something "substantial" in his hand and that helps him...3) Feel much more confident getting around.Took 2 minutes to register online for their lifetime warranty.Highly recommended.

Pros: excellent support, unique design and multi use capability. Supports my weight, 240lbs well. Can be cut shorter if needed but like it a little long, especially coming down stairs. Having hip replacement surgery this month, I bought the Brazos lightweight twisted derby cane, and the hospital gave me an aluminum cane and grab pole. I’ve since bought 3/4 additional style grabber poles. By far, the Brazos is my favorite and go to cane.So many Other needs around the houseI thought at least one different grabber poles would work, but would not. By chance I tried to use the Brazos to do some tasks like Helping pull up pants/sweatpants/shorts, close car door after entering, etc. it worked great, using the angled part of the derby top. Many additional uses other than only help support while walking.Cons: none

I purchased this item for my father as a Christmas gift. It was guaranteed to arrive in time. Then after I paid they changed the delivery date and wouldn’t allow me to cancel my order. When the cane finally arrived after Christmas it was used and not a sturdy item for a 200 lb elderlyman to use. I am disappointed in the item not being new and disappointed that the seller won’t refund my money. Buyers beware. Was sold as new but obviously it was not.
