Q: For a 20x40 inground, do I only pinch one hole in the ball, then throw out? Dirctions are very confusing to me.

You use the entire ball and to do so puncture all holes. Be sure to let the pump go at least 8 hours after doing so

Q: Do they work for above ground pools?

I would assume so. It's for any water that you want to keep warm. I don't like it due to the oil haze it puts on my pool water and makes it look oily vs keep it warm.

Q: Can you use in a salt water pool

Don't know about salt water poo. I took temperature measurements with and without the Solarpill and found no benefit.

Q: Are you able to use a portion of the pill for a small pool?

Once it is opened, no. I personally didn’t think it help warm the pool.
