The C# Player's Guide (5th Edition)

Fantastic. No more bad tutorials.
The book is clear, logical, focused, and very easy to follow. This is the first time I've been able to write some script without having to follow a youtube tutorial that does nothing to explain any of the logic used to come to a solution. It presents some challenges, and I'm able to use everything I've learned within a chapter (plus some critical thinking) to achieve the goal without help or too much headache. Some of the challenges are a little cheeky and will ask you to incorporate elements that are related to what you just learned but wasn't explicitly mentioned. Some might not like that, but it seriously wasn't too hard to just take an extra step to look into some documentation and figure it out.

I can't say enough good things about this book.
If you don't intend to learn code for games don't be put off by the "Player's Guide" / gamer vibes this book might put out. The explanations of each concept are amazing and will help you regardless of which industry you're targeting. If the author's explanations aren't the best I've ever seen (very easy to understand and very concise) you can be rest assured that you'll get close to the best explanation without having to scour the internet for hours to find a better one. The average C# author (for whatever reason I don't know) is terrible at explaining things. This author's explanations are maybe 1/4 as long as what you'll see other's publish, but at the same time (somehow) contain more key information. The author creates very useful coding challenges that yes, are "games", but when you think about it, many concepts are really hard to teach unless you have a functional example. Most books try to demonstrate how code works using it in severely redundant situations (creating a Rube-Goldberg machine of sorts, and of course they don't tell you that). This author too does that (it's unavoidable) but makes note of it, asking the reader to think things over. To create an example that actually does something, as well as one the learner can actually use and tweak, a 'mini-game' is really probably the best tool. The author has obviously given this book a theme. One example is that the chapters are actually called "levels". Unlike with other authors, the 'theme' doesn't come close to taking up an excess amount of space. The author achieves a really great balance. If you don't jive with the "Dungeon and Dragons" stuff don't worry as you'll get over it quickly when you see how well each topic is explained. You can really ignore it and still benefit greatly from this book. To get the most out of it you'll want to actually do the coding challenges of course (or maybe conjure up your own if you can?). Going along with the theme will aid learning but isn't necessary to still benefit greatly from this book.I'd say that this book is geared towards the beginner/intermediate level programmer. I'm using it to get back into C# after a hiatus (and to fill some knowledge gaps). Each chapter contains something called a "speed run" at the start of it. This is very helpful if you're like me and already know a lot, but have to fill some knowledge gaps or do a quick review. The coding challenges are also independent; you can dive in just about anywhere you want.

Excelente libro!

Very Good
So far so good as a first book for a new programmer. Enjoyable and truly more interesting and motivating than following online guides or reading a typical programming book.I was worried it was going to cut corners in teaching but was glad to see that wasn't the case.
