a fun read
A girls' weekend out with mates Margaret and Diana had Sam eager to start her days of fun. But things fell apart even before they reached their destination. the writing was gripping with quite a few shocks down the way. I didn't know whom to trust. This was an enjoyable read, highlighted by secrets.

Clever
The Perfect Escape offers just that, a perfect escape into a world of thrills and chills. Are you looking for that one thriller that would hold you in thrall from start to finish, then LOOK NO FURTHER, Leah Konen’s The Perfect Escape is gripping, gripping, gripping….An escape from all the turmoil of divorce, separation, and pain is what the three friends are looking for when they pack their bags and decide on a relaxing weekend at Saratoga Springs…One of them insists on a break at Catskill and the Lego blocks come tumbling down. A trip that was the Perfect Escape becomes one horror show after another with one friend missing and murder being discovered. The fiasco that begins with the missing keys turns into a disaster of insurmountable proportions as two of them discover the extent of the nightmare that they are in. The ‘ex-es’ are plentiful, all 3 friends have truths hidden but underneath it all, the story focuses on the emotional baggage following a separation or divorce and that moment of learning to accept and let go.Leah Konen creates a galloping ride till the end as each chapter beings forth twisty surprises that keeps the reader on their toes…and if you think you have guessed one secret from this story then guess again, the author springs a shocking reveal at the end that was simply a ‘jaw dropping moment for me’. The story that has its share of secrets tumbling out of the closet also provides an in-depth look into the trauma that affects a terminated pregnancy. Margaret’s pain in being forced into a tough decision and the aftereffects of the grief that cripples her life is raw and agonizing. Each character has been fleshed out wonderfully by the author with all of them flawed and human.Riveting and absorbing, The Perfect Escape is a cleverly plotted getaway thriller that will have you turning pages at an alarming pace desperately seeking the end. Many thanks to Net Galley, Penguin Michael Joseph, and the author for a chance to read and review this book. Okay, fairly formulaic
The Perfect Escape is your typical thriller. Although it is centred around three friends, it is clear that they know very little about each other, or that they are even telling each other the whole truth. For this tale, friends Sam, Margaret and Diana have all bonded over their failing relationships. When Sam's new husband leaves her after only a few months, the three friends decide to have a long weekend away. Even from the very start, things start to go wrong, when they are forced to make an unplanned stay-over in the town where Sam's ex just so happens to live. From here, everything then starts to fall down.As a quick, easy read, this novel was okay. The story is extremely convoluted, and I didn't feel that the writing was always that good, but because, like many thrillers, there are short chapters, you can find yourself quite easily flying through them. As you would expect, there are some twists along the way, and the usual red herring. Although it's not the best thriller I have read, it certainly wasn't the worst.Overall, I would say 2.5 stars.

A thriller with just so many twists!
Mainly told through the stories of Margaret and Sam this starts of as a well intentioned girls trip that bit by but just starts falling apart and every twist just when you think you have nailed along comes another plot twist. This was such an engaging book that kept me up a nice easy read!

Undecided
This book started so well. Characters that were believable. Interesting plot and lots of twists. But, too many twists later in the book. Began to lose interest in last quarter of book and skimmed pages in order to finish it.

Convoluted story
I'm not really sure whether I liked this or not. It was slow and I found a little hard to follow at times, but maybe that's me. It came together in the end.
