Worked great, but only for 1 day
The pen was great the first day we used it! I followed the directions carefully and backed the filament out to store it. The next day when we went to use it again, the motor would not work. We plugged it in, let it heat up and when the light indicated it was ready we pushed the feed button and nothing happened. I read the short manual trying to trouble-shoot it. I am sending it back for a refund. I really needed this to work. It was for my students' class project. I even ordered extra filament for it.

Awesome 3D pen
This pen is amazing. Works perfectly so far. I've made a few things with it and was not disappointed.

The instructions were easy to follow
Very well packaged and arrived on time. The pen is a lot larger then expected. The instructions were easy to follow, everything is labeled so you know each button does. As for 3D printing itself, there's a huge learning curve. Things I learned right away, it doesn't stick to the surface very well. I had to create a "platform and then built off that, then cut off the parts I didn't need. Just to get it to "lift up" off the ground. Some complex designs require you make separate pieces and "solder' them together. For my first design I did a bird. Best to create a frame first and then build around it.Just like a hot glue gun, you're gonna get those annoying hairline strings that can sometimes damage your design. The tip of the pen is VERY hot, so I use it to melt the end off before I pull away. That helps with that. You can also use it to "sculpt" parts that didn't end up very smooth. Have a pair of scissors handy to cut off pointy ends.In addition to no instructions or tips on how to create 3D creations, the whole front black tip area, including some of the plastic where you hold, gets very hot. Its sort of uncomfortable to hold after a while. If you turn the speed up too fast, the string comes out and curls immediately, and you end up wasting an inch or two of filament. Slow and steady is the best option. I have yet to figure out how to make a straight line in the air.Another thing to notice, is when you let go of the feed button, it doesn't stop automatically. It pushes out a tiny bit more, then stops. So stop early so you don't end up with more then you needed. It lets off a lot of fumes. I don't know how safe they are, but I just sorta blow it as I go to super cool it.Overall, I really like this. I look forward to practicing with it and creating more complicated designs!

Very neat intro to 3D printing without the cost of a full-size printer.
This pen fills a nice role as an intro to 3D printing. I have always been curious about 3D printing but I'm not ready to take the plunge and buy a $500 printer. The pen comes with 3 rolls of ABS, each a different color. I tested it using a portable power pack which had 2A output. It heated up quickly and I was most surprised by how quickly the plastic solidified once it hit the air. You can literally "draw" a line straight up and pull the pen away, leaving a line standing in the air. My son and I tested it on a paper plate as the "build surface". The plastic was sturdy and not brittle at all.I would warn that it gets hot at the tip. Not an issue, just be careful handling it and probably not let younger children use it (at least not without supervision).
