Pro Level Bike Polo Mallet Head 80g

super inexpensive first mallet or loaner mallets
these are a great, inexpensive way to build yourself your first mallet or to build up some loaner mallets on the cheap while trying to get people into polo.the claimed 80g weight has to be without the end caps or hardware, this sucker's heavy. i drilled a bunch of holes in mine to try and make it a bit lighter but my arm is still tired of swinging it after a couple hours of playing.i've been using the pictured mallet for about 3 months now, it's worn out quite a bit. that said, for $10 this is a great mallet to get going with, especially when the next cheapest option online is 3 times as expensive. that's not even mentioning the $5 replacement policy these carry.these aren't technically legal for league play any more as the large hole in the side is too large, but when you're able to buy 5 of these and gather up a few old ski poles and put together a bunch of mallets for less than the cost of buying the parts to build a single "proper" mallet, this is a no brainer for someone starting off or trying to start up a club on the cheap.

This OLD school, don't buy it!
You don't want to buy this. It's way too heavy and really old-school. You might get heckled pretty bad if you show up to pickup with one of these. Search the web for "Heckler's Alley" they have everything you would need. You can also buy DOM bike polo mallets on Amazon with Prime Shipping!

Stick with better stuff than this
These heads break quicker than if you were to use an empty beer can. Stick with better stuff than this.

The Noisy Cricket
Picked this up on Ebay (free shipping)I was given poor reviews from fellow polo players but I had already purchased it, so I was committed. The head looks just as shown, made from high impact plastic using injection mold tech. Feeling it had me a bit skeptical since it was mold formed instead of machined like my Warlock heads by Magic but what the hel, it has a $5 replacement policy. It also came with two end caps with the hardware to install.I mounted the head to a ski pole since I was unsure of it's quality and did not want to ruin a good pole if it didn't fare well. I needed to use a layer of tape to make it snug on the pole and cap on end, tho not an issue considering the pole was not an 1/8th inch issued pole. The hardware fit like a glove and is really solid and took little time to complete. I liked that there was no bolt on the bottom and the mounting prevented the head from spinning without having to cut teeth in the pole. I give it a 5 star for set-up.My warm-up testing found the weight a a bit more than my other mallets but it had deceptively solid hitting power. It was given the name Noisy Cricket due to the power of the shot and a less than intimidating "tack" sound it made on the shots. The speed and hearty impact of the ball made heads turn and goalies yelp loudly when hit.I gave it over to one of our hardest players to try out in a number of pick-up games. He put it to the test and was impressed by it. It held up well to the assault it was put through, the wear was not any worse than what my Warlocks have gone through. The cap stayed in place and remain tight. For me, a newer player and a lefty , the side cups made for greater control and retention under pressure. Working my way around my opponents was far easier since the ball didn't wander as I generally have to deal with and the material is not slick enough to cause problems when balancing with it. The holes make it easy to run the compression straps through when I carry it on my Chrome Bravo. Over all I have to say it's one of my top picks.**Update (April 7, 2014)**It has been a month since I took to the court with this mallet and I still give this a five star. It does wear down a bit faster than the other mallets I have used, but I also had only one cap on, so I would shoot with just the one side. Putting both caps on will even out that in the future. The caps have stayed secure, this the only exception of loosing a screw, so it would not hurt to keep a few on hand if this were to happen. As for staying secure to the shaft, I love the design and how easy it would be to switch out if the shaft needed replaced. I intend on getting a few spare shafts drilled and ready to go.I have yet to have to put the replacement warranty to use.**Update (July 1, 2014)**Still going strong! It has worn down quite a bit but has yet to fail to perform and remains solid to date.**Update (August 8th, 2014)**Finally decided to swap out the head. It is still functional and sound as long as the cap is on, otherwise it was worn down to an edge that can cut the ball without the cap. I haven't had a chance to send it in for replacement as of yet. Six+ months of consistent use is pretty good considering that I have seen other companies heads wear down faster to the point that they cannot be used in less time.
