Is the sound hollow? Good question. The sound is as natural as any hearing aids I have tried. I think this comes from the fact that these have 16 channels where most of what I have seen are four or less. The one thing that isn't filtered out are sharp sounds like something dropping on a hard surface or the crinkle of a potato chip bag. There is a NOISY ROOM mode, but I'm still trying to figure out how to use that mode. The sound is not hollow or echo sounding. I use them primarily for watching TV. I can now turn the TV to a normal level and still understand what is being said.
