Beautiful and unique... requires some TLC and assembly
Decided to wait a while before reviewing to get a more balanced impression of the clock after a bit of a rocky start.Short review: One of the coolest clocks I’ve owned in my life, always draws attention from visitors. The three-dimensional construction is very eye-catching… great colors too.On the other hand … it’s not really “plug and play”… some disassembly and assembly required… instructions are not very complete. Bit of trial and error is required.TL;DR review:- The shipping packaging was nearly destroyed … but I guess it did its job by sacrificing itself because there was only a single minor crack on a nonstructural part of the clock that isn’t very visible. However, can’t use the box to ship it back if I wanted to.- The option for two different colored arms is great… two problems: - 1) Have to disassemble the clock to get access to the mounting shaft for whatever color arms you chose (my wife and I liked the black ones … others thought they were too dark to see. Nice touch for them to offer a choice). Be sure that you reassemble the clock so the wall mounting bracket is at the top of the clock (I almost installed it 180 degrees off by accident… would’ve been SO pissed if I had to disassemble just to flip it 180 degrees). Takes a bit of effort to carefully remove and replace all the screws on the back to disassemble / re-assemble. Take your time here… it would be easy to strip the screws if too aggressive and/or impatient. Not the right time to do this after an argument with your boss and/or wife or both, and 10 shots of Jameson. - 2) also no instructions included on how to synchronize the arms when installing. The minute arm is keyed to a set position on the inner shaft (two positions .. actually 180 degrees apart to be accurate … doesn’t matter which one you choose as you’ll set it up to work later). The hour arm can be press-fit to any orientation (round hole, cylindrical shaft). My helpful hint: When assembling, when the clock face is still open and available, loosely mount the hour arm (don’t fully seat yet) … aim the minute arm at the 12 o’clock position using the knob on the back of the clock mechanism. Manually carefully move, align, and press the hour arm pointing to the exact same position. That’s either midnight or noon. Use the knob on the back of the clock assembly to slowly (takes a while) run the arms through a full 12-hour cycle. Why? I found that the arms were a bit bent, so every hour and 6 minutes or so, the arms would interfere with each other if not bent/straightened properly. Now re-assemble with all the screws and little plastic pieces. Then adjust the actual time using the little knob on the back of the clock to the current time (assuming batteries are already installed). Then they will rotate properly and look correct as it measures out each twelve-hour period.- Batteries. Don’t use alkaline or lithium. They recommend “carbon” if you look at the fine print. I never heard of a carbon battery. And I’m old. But also American. Then found out it refers to the very old-fashioned “zinc” batteries as known in various geographies. They pre-date modern batteries. Turns out after some research that alkaline batteries have more current capability (which is why they were invented to deal with modern equipment). But the time tracking mechanism in these clocks is not sophisticated and can be damaged, overloaded, or not accurate if using alkaline batteries. Mine was losing like 2-5 minutes per hour until I replaced the alkalines with the old-fashioned carbon/zinc type… now it might lose 2 or 3 minutes a week which is easy to correct via the knob on the back. Good enough for me…Getting past the setup and tuning process above… the clock has been awesome. Very eye-catching. The three-dimensionality, and the turning gears, all while being very quiet has made this clock a favorite for me and my wife.I think they could sell these for a lot more if they had “plug and play” fit and polish… and had more consistent packaging and production quality assurance, but then we’d all be paying a lot more for a cool clock. Consider it a collaboration with an artist.Cheers.

Nice clock but hard to read
I like the size of the clock. I didn’t know right away the hands could be changed (to read the clock better). I found those hands later. The clock is hard to read with the color of the installed hands. I put the alternative color hands on the clock and it isn’t much better to read. I got the cherry colored wood, the gears are an old gold color and the numerals are also the old gold color. The color of the hands does not stand out enough. I love how the gears move slowly as it keeps time. The instructions say not to use alkaline batteries (that’s all we have in our house)I am keeping the clock.

Beautiful Clock- change the hands
Beautiful clock, no issues whatsoever and it worked perfectly. The hands on the clock are very hard to see but it came with replacement hands in a different color that are much better. There are instructions in the product description on how to change them if you are looking for some- that’s what I followed and it worked

DISAPPOINTED-Update
Update: Purchased the same clock again and it came in good condition. The clock is pretty and the moving parts makes it very unique. I'd give it a 4 star now.It came damaged. I'm so DISAPPOINTED! It is a Birthday present which is today. The arms aren't working, the little knob to change the time is broken off and it's scratched. It is a beautiful clock though.

Pretty clock but issue***update
Clock is beautiful, gears work, but the hands keep sticking on each other. I can't find where to contact the seller, so thus the rating.Seller got with me next day and provided instructions.

STUNNING!
I was a bit leery about buying a clock online, but am so glad I took a chance on this one, as it is absolutely STUNNING. It is exactly as described..better than described, actually, and was very simple to unbox, load with batteries, and hang on my wall.I also appreciate the fact that the package includes hanging hardware (although I didn't need to use it) and extra minute and hour hands of a different color for versatility (the clock came with black hands installed, and the extra hands are bronze in color). When it's time to change the batteries, I might try out the different color just for fun.If you are in doubt about whether or not this clock will live up to the photos and description on Amazon, fear not! It is not only as described...it actually exceeded my expectations. It makes a bold statement without being "gaudy," and the rotating gears are mesmerizing to observe. Purchase it - you won't be disappointed!

Really cool looking clock if you get one that works
Clock works great and is cool to watch as long as you get one that isn’t busted. First one I got the clock was broken so got a replacement. Replacement was also broken. The customer service team was very responsive and helpful. Instead of sending back the second one I elected for them to send me replacement parts for the clock movement. It was very easy to fix. I’m a handy person and sometimes don’t mind fixing things so I was able to get it to work. They offered to give me 50% back to cover the effort and issues which I think was fair. Again, it’s a cool clock I get many compliments and the customer service team was very helpful and responsive which is why I’m rating this higher than it could be.

Attention-grabbing large, steampunk design. Good craftmanship. Quiet heavy.
The wall clock is certainly a conversation starter. It's quite large and its steampunk design, whether you are a fan or not (I am), really makes it stand out no matter which room it is placed in. It boasts great craftsmanship with a beautiful cherry-coloured wood casing and delightfully retro, worn-metal-looking numerals and gears. These are actually just painted plastic but are nevertheless quite sturdy. The movement of the gears is smooth, completely silent and almost hypnotic -- you could lose hours just staring at them. As mentioned on the product page, the gears and clock movement are not related and are powered separately so you can choose to leave out the batteries for the gears if ever you are tired of their movement. The only drawback of such a large wooden clock is its weight. It's quite heavy so you will have to be careful where you hand it. It does come with a drywall anchor and a screw but even so, you may want to place some pillows or other soft material on the floor during installation just in case.Overall, this is a superb, attention-grabbing wall clock with beautifully smooth gear movement. Is it worth $200+? If you are a big fan of steampunk/retro and plan to make this clock the centre-piece of your living room it can be well worth it. But of course, you can find many alternatives at more affordable prices if you look hard enough.

Freaking HUGE… and I’m not just referring to the current price point.
Current price point at the time/date of this review: $520.24 with no discount/coupon currently being provided by the seller. Just a day or two ago this unit was going for: $519.01 with no discount/coupon being offered by the seller at the time. Tell me the current pricing is a typo. Considering the other color options going for less than half the price I imagine it just might be. Nevertheless I’ll dock a star since I can’t be sure and it shows what it shows. You can’t expect anyone with a clear head to be willing to fork out over $500 for this wall clock. Sure it’s cool and all, but do you know how many working hours it takes to bill out $500? Get it? “Working hours”.... clock… pun… funny?Other than that the unit looks great, but nowhere near the value it’s currently listed at. In fact there are similar units available in rustic wood that I much rather prefer over this unit and going for (again) less than half the amount. If the pricing is intentional then I’m not sure what these folks are smoking, certainly not a smoking hot price. Unless this unit is lined in gold, is there something I’m missing here? I have no “time” for this nonsense. See the pun? This unit is REALLY large, so be sure to keep spec it out and make sure you’re comfortable with the size.
