Pedro, First-Grade Hero

I got this book for my 1st grade classroom because it contains several of the Pedro stories. Since each individual book is about $5-$6 in paperback and this book was only $4.95, purchasing it was a no-brainer! However, because it is a lot thicker and a bit heavier, the children tend to reach more often for the single story books during free reading time. Even though the stories in this book are exactly the same as some of the single books. It appears that they feel intimidated by the greater number of pages in the collection of stories. Still, if you're going to read it at home with your child, it's a great collection and once you've read it together, your child will be more eager to read it independently.

This book is a collection of several Pedro books into a chapter book. Each book is like a chapter. The books are written by the same author as the Katie Woo series. Pedro is one of Katie's friends, and these stories focus on him as the hero. If you are looking for interesting, engaging books starring diverse kids, look no farther. I also highly recommend the Katie Woo series. I teach 1st grade, and both Katie Woo and Pedro are popular with boys and girls in my class.

I bought this book for my classroom. My students have special needs. We enjoyed reading the stories together. We used it for characters, sequence, settings, etc. I have also purchased some Katie Woo. Nice to have diversity in the books.

Bought this for my first grader. He liked Pedro and found the stories and characters fun and charming. Also liked the jokes in the back.

My son is 5.5 and an advanced level reader but he likes content for his age. I read the reviews and felt this would be at his maturity level. He liked them okay but read all 4 stories in less than an hour. It wasn’t super engaging and a bit too simplistic. Very basic and not on par with some of the female counterpart books we’ve read like Amelia Bedelia.

Wonderful and engaging book for my 6 year old!

This is a wonderful little collection starring the best friend of my niece's favorite character Katie Woo. Pedro has his own adventures and stories and Katie is a supporting character - my niece loved it and read it to her little brother! Looking forward to more books in this series.

Students really liked the book and series.
