Commercial huh?
Pros: Deck is built to last, mows great, disk drive is great, strong engine, has oil filterCons: B&S engine! (more on that below), HEAVY weight, no oil drain plug, have to remove side discharge to drain oil effectively, have to pay extra for the side discharge assembly.I've got about 10 hrs on this mower and love the mower itself overall , but for the friggin engineering flaw with the motor carboration; After the engine warms up (i.e. you run a tank of gas thru it, or stop it for any reason after it warms up) it WILL NOT restart without using ether, and even then only starts reluctantly, with multiple pulls. In order to do this you need to remove the air filter and cover, so once you do get the mower restarted, you end up trying to keep the mower running, while not amputating a limb, while you simultaneously reinstall the air filter and cover!!! This is completely unacceptable for a mower, let alone one that costs this much. It's appalling that B&S would even put out an engine that doesn't restart when warm.. I predict a class action lawsuit due to the number of folks who get hurt because of this. I spoken to my small engine guy, and he says it's a side effect of being engineered for low emissions.Bottom line: If you're a homeowner with a yard that doesn't take more than a tank of gas to cut your property AND you don't plan on ever turning the mower off during your cutting, then this is a great mower. If you don't precisely fit that bill, this isn't the engine for you. Maybe try this mower with the Honda motor?.. As a side note, my prior mower with a Kohler motor got this right, even with emissions controls and started immediately EVERY time ALL the time with one pull. Briggs and Stratton, has sorely let me and all of us down on this one... Unless they make this right, I'm done with B&S...

Really nice- really worth !!
Snapper Ninja commercial mower: industrial Briggs engine, steel wheels, etc. I got this mower after having used typical big box mowers over the years. I have a really large yard with very thick St. Augustine grass. Front wheel drive mowers were not able to propel properly, the front drive wheels would often spin in the thick grass and need me to help by pushing. Rear wheel mowers were better, but still underpowered and somewhat awkward. My wife and I discussed paying a higher price for the Snapper: I have been going through mowers at the rate of one every 2 to 3 years. Unless you have mowed really thick St. Augustine grass it would be hard to imagine how tough it is on a mower. The Snapper went right through the grass in mulch mode with no problem. In fact, I had to adjust the speed down to keep up with it. Even with a side chute on other mowers I have never been able to get through the grass anything like this! I cut once when the grass was a little damp and no problems. The disc drive parts being on top of the deck is a good idea. The deck is sturdy as are the wheel adjustment levers. The engine starts on the first or second pull. The Snapper easily gets in and out of ditches and handles uneven spots very well. I am more than pleased with the construction and performance of this mower. Caveat: It came with no manual. I downloaded one from the Internet, but it had no directions for assembly. Putting the handles sections and attaching the drive rod was not difficult. I just looked at a picture I printed out. Note: the drive speed adjusts by moving a vertical disc in relation to a horizontal disc. The closer the vertical disc is to the center of the horizontal disc, the slower the speed. The engine runs full speed the whole time, so there is not a gas throttle. If you see 'throttle ' on an add just know this.We read a lot of reviews for different mowers- this one hit it outta the park !!

Powerful, Durable, Simple! I love this mower!
I purchased this mower after destroying several other brands of self propelled mower transmissions from my rough yard. I have a LOT of mole tunnels! The engine started with one pull after assembly, and an oil and gas fill. The engine’s exhaust was quieter than I expected. The simple drive design seems rugged, and engaged smoothly. The mower was easy to control with one hand while adjusting the speed with the large red control lever. For the weight of this unit, it was not hard to steer. The front of the mower lifted easily with a push down on the padded handle. The handle had zero flex thanks to the diagonal braces. The mower easily rolls over my rough lawn with the large ball bearing wheels, even with the self propel disengaged. The engine had plenty of power to cut my overgrown, wet grass. It left grass clumps in the yard, but I expected that with the length of wet grass I was cutting off. I normally don’t cut grass under these conditions. My wife thought I had bought a simple walk behind mower, because there are not a lot of controls on this unit, just the bail under the handle to stop the engine and blade, a travel speed lever (big red knob), and the drive engage lever on the right rear of the handle. I feel the best equipment is that which doesn’t “get in your way”, but just works with little user thought or interaction. This mower is just that type of equipment. No excess of controls. Pull the bail, pull the starter rope, push the drive engage lever, and select your travel speed with the red lever. Simple, rugged, powerful, comfortable, and easy to use and control. With some simple maintenance, I hope to have this mower for years to come. I may edit this review once I’ve had a chance to cut under normal conditions. Briggs and Stratton, don’t mess with success!
