A few assembly tips for this great looking desk
As a number of reviews indicate, the instructions are not quite what they should be.1 Measure twice, cut once.2 The 18 page instructions consist of 10 pages of numbered and lettered parts and 8 pages of drawings (no actual instructions) showing how the various parts fit together. Separate pages 1-10 and 11-18 so you are able to view the parts list and the drawings side by side. Use the handy little ruler on page 10 to make sure you are using the correct screw size.3 The instructions are available online. Look for “Monarch Specialties I7146 instructions”.You will find a few places where the drawing isn’t as clear as it might be. Going to that page online and zooming in to make it larger will help you determine what to do.4 Measure twice, cut once.5 The tools you will need are a medium size phillips-head screwdriver to get screws started, a power drill to finish inserting the crew, and a tack hammer.6 There are some dowel holes that go unused. I assume that is because some parts are also used in other products that have different requirements. Always study the drawing to make certain you are using the proper hole and not the one next to it.7 Measure twice, cut once.8 The desktop is 30” high. You may find typing on a keyboard sitting on top of the desk to be too high for you. I planned all along to add a keyboard tray that slides in and out from under the desktop. Make sure you select a tray where the clamps can spread to 1¾” apart. Many of them cannot.9 There is a little drawing on the first page of the instructions showing the correct and incorrect ways to insert a dowel. There should also be verbiage saying something like this: When tapping a dowel into place, first study the part that will later be attached to the other end of the dowel. Make sure you put the dowel far enough into place so that what is left exposed will not push through the other side of the second piece.10 See 1, 4, and 7

Good desk but understand what your paying for
This is a decent desk for the price. I wasn't going to post a review but some of the ones out there are so far off base that I wanted to clarify some things.PROS- Price- Fairly sturdy- Large work space- Shipping: well protected. Everything was padded by Styrofoam and the box itself was encased with heavy bubble wrap.- Again, PRICE. The same desk is being sold at a popular online furniture site for close to $700. Its marketed under a different name (not Monarch) but is literally the same desk. They even use the same photos on that site as they do on Amazon. Not sure why its ~$200 here and $700 there but I'm happy with it :)CONS- The materials. This is to be expected as you're paying $200 for a desk. Anything in this price range or size is going to be particle board, MDF, etc. However, for what it is, the desk works well. You want a solid WOOD desk? Looking at over $1000.- The assembly was pretty easy and went well EXCEPT for one drawer where the screw holes were misaligned. I was too lazy to get my drill so the top drawer has a 1/8" gap when closed.SIDE NOTES- The instructions are not the greatest but they are in-line with most do-it-yourself furniture. If you can figure out IKEA furniture, you can assemble this desk.- Some complaints from other Reviews stated the wooden dowels somehow broke through the desk when they tightened the Cam and lock nut (a screw and a small circle that you turn halfway to lock 2 pieces of furniture together). Based on what those Reviewers said, it sounds like they put the WOODEN DOWEL in the Screw hole. Big no-no, the instructions even have a picture of this on Page One that says "Incorrect".OVERALLI like this desk for the price. Its large, stable, and I got what I expected for this price range. When I have a larger budget I will upgrade to a nicer desk but for $200 you cant go wrong.

A bit pricey for quality
I love the style of the desk, however, I feel like it is a bit too pricey for the quality. It is like IKEA furniture but $100 overpriced. There was a small dent in the top of the desk from shipping, not too noticeable and I kind of expected it being that it shipped in one giant 88-lb box. They wrapped it in a bunch of bubble wrap to protect it but the damage still got through. The metal support bar bent while I was assembling it but I got it to work, and then once assembled I realized how hard it is to move because of the one bar attaching the top of the desk to the drawer unit. I have my laptop, second monitor, and my printer on it. The space works well and the size is perfect for what I needed. When printing, the whole desk shakes a bit.Overall, not entirely disappointed, but not entirely happy either. Feel like its only worth $130, not the $230 I paid (Amazon was the seller). While writing this review I noticed the exact color I bought - black and gray - is now only available from a seller named VirVentures for $445!!!! ABSOLUTELY not worth that price. Insane.

Exactly as described
This product explanation and photo are spot on. It requires a pretty large area to assemble as the pieces are large, but I put it together on my own (125 lb woman). The color is a true white and seems to have a coating so that when I clean it the wood isn't compromised. The metal is quite sturdy also. The only complaint I have is the drawers are like IKEA drawers with the thinnest piece of cardboard/particle board as the base. I put my old MacBook Pro in there and the piece fell out. It's also not a perfect fit, as the bottom board is too lose for the slats so it slides around. I rotated it a few times to find the best fit, but not matter what there are gaps. I used wood glue, but it's still not perfect. The nail holes also weren't perfectly aligned on the drawers. If you are buying this for the drawers it might not be the best fit - I can really only use the bottom one for hanging files (which doesn't touch the bottom), so for me it will suffice.
