A showcase for Jessie Ware's soulful, melancholy vocals and effortlessly elegant songwriting skills, Devotion blends the ultra-modern feel of downtempo R&B with British electronic music a combo Nylon called 'saturnine sophisti-pop that has been lauded as the missing link between Sade and Whitney Houston,' while adding that her 'heady cocktail of soulful vocals, techno beats, and pop attitude is creating a sensation that s entirely her own.' The Washington Post notes Ware's 'ability to capture the heat of an adolescent blush with her cool, Sade-inspired alto ... her voice glows amid the detailed electronic timbres of right now.' The New York Times praises Devotion as 'meditative' and 'sensuous,' while Pitchfork dubs it as 'a uniquely soulful masterclass.' New York magazine selected Devotion as one of its Top Albums of the year, noting Ware's 'smoky reserve and sophisticated languor.'

She's no joke!
Citing Sade as an influence, Jessie wanted to make an album that she felt both she & Sade would be proud of. Seeing as to how Sade is also one of my favorite artist of all time, I think that she would be very proud! Like Adele & Sam Smith, Jessie is another artist to come from across the pond. Coincidentally, Jessie is the only one I like lol her voice is smooth, her lyrics are sexy which made for a very easy listen. VH1 featured her as one of their Artist You Oughta Know & for a second it looked as if she would have taken off. She didn't unfortunately in spite of getting rave reviews from virtually every music publication that listened to it! Standout tracks are; "Sweet Talk","%110","Wildest Moments","Night Light" & my favorites, "Runnin" & "Taking In Water"

Perfectly alienating, apparently
Bought this for someone because I thought they’d enjoy it and want to discuss its themes and meaning, but they never spoke to me again instead. So I guess it is ironically effective at making folks realize life is meaningless? That’s some powerful work by Ms. Ware.

Her devotion is shown within the cd
Jessie Ware's "Devotion" cd is not an easy find in the states. I only found her music by a youtube coincidence. Every song on her cd reflects a great deal of passion and focus. Jessie's voice reflects maturity while flirting with an innoncence. Although her music has an upscale gloss appeal there exists a great urban rhythm throughout that brings a fresh take on music that allows Jessie to pierce through the sonic landscape with her angelic, hypnotic voice with original backbeat rhythms. I am really surprised to see in the states she is not larger or more popular. Every track is an easy catapult for her to be recognized and appreciated. I bought her cd as there were no stateside release outlets. This cd is quite easily the best release in the past several years. It is original and thought provoking. I play it every day. If you want music that will soothe you yet challenge your mindset... check out Jessie Ware.

Great CD
I honestly had never heard of Jessie Ware yet I was looking for another CD and decided to listen to the samples of this one on amazon.com and I liked those samples so much that I bought the CD. I wasn't disappointed. What a voice Jessie has and what great songs she sings and writes. I love this CD and play it over and over again. My favorite songs is "Keep Me Running", but the other songs are just as good. This is a great CD at a great price. I'm looking forward to the next Jessie Ware CD already.

Outstanding first album
I'd heard several of the songs from this album. This is one of those rare albums where every song is quality, but I especially like Wildest Moments, Running and Taking in Water. Looking for a new artist to discover and enjoy? Buy this album; you won't be disappointed (unless you don't like quality vocals, song writing and arrangements).
