Great purchase!
I've split a lot of wood over the years. I've usually rented an industrial hydraulic splitter from Home Depot @ $100 per day. I had a (home) 2 day, 2 tree project and decided to buy this little unit for the same cost renting would have cost. This unit is awesome! Sure, it won't split big knots or super hard green oversized rounds, but it worked great for me and I new the limitations in advance from reading the reviews. The instructions say 10" max sized rounds, but I easily split 30" +/- rounds. If the ram stops, you turn the log until you find a weak spot. And, when splitting a log bigger than 10", it will split in half and both pieces will fall to the ground, just look out! It paid for itself in 2 days and I'll be able to use this for years to come. It's electric, so there's no sitting fuel issues or oil changes required.

Don't buy. You need something more effective and reliable.
Item arrived damaged on one of the tubes that it stands upon in storage. After photos of the damaged box and the internal damage I called to make sure that the part did not affect the operation of the machine. They said it was OK and they would send new rubber caps for the tubes.Once the machine was ready to go, (you have to put the wheels on) I tried it out on a couple of 4-6" diameter logs of semi-dry wood and it would not split them. I was also alarmed to find you have to keep pressing the power button to operate the machine and this puts your face close to where the wood is being split. But I carried on as I wanted this machine to work. I tried a number of pieces of wood to little success.I got some older well dried pieces that were already split and tried to split them. The machine was successful, but when the wood split, the pieces were ejected from the machine with explosive force that threw the pieces 3-4 feet away from the machine and almost hit my back porch sliding glass door. Thank goodness I had set up the machine 7-8 feet away from the door or I would have been a really unhappy customer!!At that point I began to investigate why it would not split the wood. It looks like the blade was welded to strengthen the splitting edge but was ground to an edge offset from the center line of the splitter so the effect was to try to push a dull bar through a log instead of a blade. Not very effective. I was going to try to fix it by regrinding the blade to sharpen and straighten it but only if the company would let me have a discount for my time and the shipping damage. After all I should have been sent a working, undamaged machine in the first place but they refused and asked me to return it, so we'll never know if it was reparable. My advice...get a DR Kinetic Splitter. They are $200 more, but if you need to split wood, you don't have time to play around with a toy unless you have lots of already dry wood that you want to make kindling out of and don't want to do it with a hatchet.CONCLUSION:Don't waste your time or money on this one. It won't do the job for you.

Good unit could use some modifications
This splitter works pretty good does a good job of splitting 99% of the wood i have , pine, lodge pole and fir. some of the lodge poll is a bit to hard for the unit. You do have to be careful with some logs because when splitting them if they are very dense this unit will send them flying and could hurt someone. My only problem with this unit are the following 2 items, The unit is to low to the ground needs to be at least 2 - 3 ft taller( i made a temp stand with landscape cinder blocks and a piece of plywood) otherwise you have to either sit down in a chair or kneel on the ground to operate it. the other problem is the unit requires both hands to operate you have to press and hold the power button at all times and with your other hand press down the ram control rod. other then those 2 problems it gets the job done even with logs wider then 10"

remember to "vent" the hydraulics.
I didn't like the fact that it was delivered to my mail box that is 1/2 mile from the house! One bolt was missing from the cradle and one fell out of the wheel mounting bracket (stripped threads)Normally I would have arranged to return the item but I had necessary bolts in stock and needed tosplit wood! Works well, split a chord of mixed hardwood of approx 10" diam. by 18" long without a problem.next load on the way.

Cheap, soft woods only.
This wood splitter works well for soft woods such as pine that are either wet or dry, you’ll have better results with drier wood. Try to use it on hard wood though and it just doesn't work. I felled an apple tree about a month ago and cut the pieces a little smaller - perhaps 8 inches long, 8 inches wide. Tried to split them and it just can’t.That said I have split numerous pine trees with this little guy and it works really well. Only exception is if it is an extra knotty piece - that one might be for the bonfire instead. The wheels are very annoying and are cheap pieces of garbage. They wobble so much as you move this thing around I’m worried they’ll break. Also when I first got this, it came with a few screws broken and loose in the box. I had to go to the hardware store and replace them. Finally the rail along the wedge side of the splitter seems like it’s going to break off as it’s splitting. The screw holding it together just isn’t strong as it needs to be.Anyways you get what you pay for. Good for basic soft woods and not much else.

Not bad at all. Very tough.
Not bad for the money. Delivery was fast. Has split almost anything I throw at it. Only wood I have found hard to split was pieces of oak with large knots. Otherwise, it splits oak just fine. Make sure you loosen the bleed screw two turns before each use so it doesn't damage it. It is heavy. Need two people to lift onto a table if you don't want to stay bent over all the time. I would definitely buy again. Great value for the money. Make sure you use a heavy duty extension cord so you don't burn up the motor.
