Fantastic book
Well researched and well written non-fiction that opens up an interest and lots of eyes to a never-told set of chronicles of history.

A great read
I loved reading this book (although I would have liked more references included). It's a mixture of personal fieldwork/travels, historical research, and what I would call 'reasonable imagination', i.e. imagining beyond the available sources how and where these tribes might have travelled. I can't pinpoint why it was so readable - perhaps because it is such a mixture of the personal and the academic - history, tales, the author's own enthusiasm, and a great compendium of reports about and research into the tribes across the ages. Definitely a book which 'travels the ancient paths' and takes the reader with it. Some of the material is also found in Tudor Parfitt's 'The Lost Tribes of Israel' but the books complement each other - particularly with Shachan's open passion for his topic, whereas Parfitt's passion is tempered by apparent scepticism. Jacobovici's 'Quest for the Lost Tribes' documentary is also a good visual complement to this book.

Far fetched historical narratives, many of which have been debunked.
