Are the product dimensions 36.5 x 18.9 x 0.7 inches correct? or is it a strait 36x18? I need it for a 40gal breeder.

The one I received was 18.75 inches deep and protruded out the front of my 40 breeder.

Is the screen soft mesh or metal? Can you rip through the screen?

Its a metal screen that would be extremely difficult to rip through without seriously trying with a sharp blade.

i want to use this for aquarium, can the frame be cut to allow for pump and accessory access?

Yes, cutting the frame or just the metal mesh on top would be fine since the cover fits snug and the metal mesh all around would keep its integrity.
