This feature allowed me to not have to tape it myself. It also allows you to know which side the heat comes out which is the non adhesive side. So if you’re not reading the instructions that would help. After 24 hours the heat of the heat pack did slightly dissipate but that is to be expected. I shipped a coral to Maryland from California. The water in styrofoam dropped from 76 to 72 F. But the weather in Maryland was like 45 F. Corals are shipped next day. Each pack lasted about a day at full strength and kept their enclosure above the exterior ambient temperature. Around Colorado and Utah, one pack wasn't enough and I had to throw 2 in but other than that these work just as I remember in my time at PetSmart. Just gotta remember to shake the little buggers out really good to ensure you get a full effect and make sure to wrap it in newspaper and avoid direct contact with skin or scales if you're transporting reptiles.
