I gave this 5 stars for the ECONOMY of it, but feel I should clarify what this IS and IS NOT. THIS IS VERY BASIC ECONOMY LIGHTWEIGHT STORAGE AT A CHEAP PRICEPOINT.This is NOT the same as the Ikea Kallax or Walmart Better Homes and Gardens level of reinforced sturdiness for holding heavier weighted items like books, nor are the interior cube dimensions compatible with those brands of 13" or 12" fabric cubes.This IS: These shelves are ideal for lighter-weight storage such as baby/toddler clothes or kids toys--- or in our case, the kids wanted LEGO display shelves for their 10x10 base-plate scenes and quick storage of random toys like Hotwheels, etc. When purchasing fabric cubes be sure they are the 10" or 11" dimensions. I found that "Mainstays" collapsible fabric cubes at Walmart fit nicely in here, but even better score was when I found some 11" cubes at our Dollar Tree (bargain!). These ClosetMaid Cubeicals benefit from being anchored into a stud on the wall, rather than being used as stand-alone/free-standing shelves. The 9 cube = 3x3 could be tolerable/"okay" freestanding if you absolutely insist, but I also bought some 1x4 and those must be secured or they sway and wobble pretty noticeably.A few miscellaneous notes: The 5 "shelf backings" arrive with a permanent creased fold down the middle-for shipping, and are made of thin poster-board like material. If this crease bothers you, just buy posterboard and cut your own backs to tack in. Or if you want something thicker, I imagine "foamboard" from the school supply aisle works great if you score it with a box-cutter.When I tacked in the shelf backings, one of my shelves tore/split even though the tack went in straight and precisely where it should have. I chose to use wood glue to repair the piece rather than return the shelves.This was fast and easy to assemble, the instructions were clear. We've had the shelves for two days now, so I may update this later on to report on durability.Why I gave it 5 stars: The shelves fit our current purpose wonderfully, and I love that when I don't require heavy duty weight bearing shelves, there is a very economical option I can snatch up. Eventually I do want the heavy duty, larger 13" cube shelves from a major brand, but for now I appreciated paying less than forty bucks to have a 9 cube = 3x3 shelf, rather than eighty or one twenty bucks for 3x3 from the other brands. Later on, I will pay more to buy some that are textbook sturdy and can do more things.The photos: You will notice I originally had 12" cubes (white with blue petals), and realized I needed the 10 or 11" cubes (beige/gray). Also I did show one photo of my 4 cube storage here, even though this is my review for the 9 cube (3x3).

These are good quality for the price. Totally transformed my space!

Bough this for my Do It Yourself Coffee Station project, delivery was fast and in excellent condition. I assembled it without any help from my husband, it was easy. Project is still in progress and loving it '''''

I am crazy about these. I've had them for years and use them as a TV stand and leave one vertical piece out so I have a spot for my bluray player and DVR. It's still nice and sturdy.The fabric drawers never hold up well for me, but I have cats that think these are here for their claw-sharpening needs, so that shortens their lifespan dramatically (of the drawers, not my cats!). I finally came up with a solution and made drawer "fronts" with extra peel-n-stick vinyl floor tiles I had, some decorative heavy-duty paper and some knobs. I just attach them via the knobs to the front of the fabric drawers and voila. The cats leave them alone and I love love love how it looks. Now the front stays nice and straight even when the fabric drawer behind it is bloated and warped. My DIY artsy fartsy crafty side is loving how customizable these can be. So many ideas!My TV weighs 67lbs and these have no problem supporting it. I do recommend securing them to the wall especially if you're in an earthquake prone place like me.I have about 4 of these throughout my home. They are amazing space-savers. I get compliments on them all the time and can't recommend them enough.

My kitchen and living room are covered with ClosetMaid Cubeicals furniture. I spent a few hundred dollars on them. Now i can tell you what a dumb mistake i made.When i first got these i thought they were good for the price. I had a list of issues with them but i figured it came with the territory --buy cheap particleboard furniture and you get a low quality product. So while i wasn't in love with the Cubeicals i figured they were allright for their low price. My mistake. Recently i bought another brands cheap particle board furniture and realize that, hey, you can actually make good quality and inexpensive particle board furniture and not all is as bad as Closetmaids.My issues:1. Bad design --all the screw heads stick out, making it very difficult to stack --and stacking is one of supposed plus of this type of furniture. Other makers have recessed screw holes, so the head doesn't stick out which makes them easy to stack in any direction.2. Bad quality --The particle board is terrible. You can't screw in the screws very tight because the particle board breaks up so the screws just spin in place. and can be pulled out. Other makers use better quality particle board that is strong enough to grip on to screws.3. Bad design & bad quality -- the backs of these are thin paperboard that you have to use nails and hammer in to the particle board. Since the particle board is low quality, the nails often distort the boards and leave bumps. Other makers use much sturdier backs, not made out of paperboard and some are so well designed they don't require screws but easily slip in (you wouldn't be able to do that with Closetmaid's thin paper boards).Overall what i figured out after spending a few hundred dollars is that Closetmaid makes some of the worst particle board furniture out there, but the size of the company and their ability to make deals with other big companies such as Amazon and Home Depot, means that most people don't realize that there are much better options out there, just harder to find.

I was pleasantly surprised how well the 12 cube organiser was made. The instructions were clear and were written in real English by someone that seemed to actually have put a Cubical together! No part of the Cubical had any damage from being dropped or similar... AND everything fitted!The big shelves without backs did allow things to be pushed all the way through, which is fine against a wall etc, but with mine I had it positioned in front of a sliding door, i.e. where the door slides away from an opening and I didn't want any thing falling out in front of the door and blocking it, I got some plastic 'skirting board' to nail a lip on the bottom back side of each open hole. This worked well with some 'Alsapan' storage boxes, I had six of these in different colours.The unit was provided with fittings to allow this Cubeical to be put on top of another one or have another put on top of it.I have had quite a few positive comments about the Cubeical, and it has provided some colourful and practical shelving.

10 years ago i bought a 9 cube, for a lot less than they are going for now, it was sturdy and held up well. I needed more space in the closet so decided to buy a 8 cube. Its amazing how in ten years cheap furniture has become more expensive yet way less sturdy and just junky. I noticed a comment that said they only use like one coat of paint now, yep! Good thing it's going in the closet. I guess 15 cents more worth of paint is just too much money for a company to spend! Some of the peg holes were drilled too deep so if you put the peg in it went right down like wow! Those pegs are supposed to hold the whole thing together. also somehow i got a gap as if the shelf was cut too short by an 8th tapering to an 16th'' so I hope it holds up! I think Ill tip it sideways put some weight on and try gluing it, what fun. Also I went to put the stabilizing bracket on and it was broken in half right out of the package, the cheap plastic piece wouldn't of held up anyway. The directions say you need a hammer and a screwdriver, I say add glue, clamps, filler, and a new stabilizer bracket to that list as well.

Put it together and noticed my hands were black. Washed hands for a good three minutes and they were still stained.Wiped down all surfaces with slightly moistend towels, pictured with hands after washing a second time. Took Lysol wipes to it after that because I care a lot more about the clothes I'm putting on it than if I damage the finish and got a bit more of the black dye out. We use it with baskets as I still wouldn't trust leaving clothes in direct contact with the product.I was ok with the thing looking like garbage, it's meant to be in the closet. But, a closet shelf that destroys clothes you put on it is triggering the "you had one job" clause.

Bought two for my kids room and they are great! Easy to put together and solid. We bought cheap material drawers from Homebase that fit perfectly. Their room is so much tidier now and we have saved so much space too! Fab!
