Hello, it is not recommended that you use it in water. Because it will rust.

Pure gold is nonmagnetic. So if your gold chain is pure gold, the magnetic pickup tool won’t work, but at least you know you’ve got pure gold. If your gold chain has other metals such as nickel which is magnetic, then this tool might work. Best of luck!
