Q: Does this mat work on carpeting (meaning it doesn't slip around)?

Yes! I take online classes, and my mat is on the carpet. It doesn’t slip at all.

Q: Is it possible to use with the mat upside-down, or is the bottom uncomfortable on your skin when it's facing up?

I would find the bottom side of the mat Very uncomfortable. Deeply textured to prevent slipping. Not sure why it would be useful to turnover other than to uncurl. But curling is not a problem I have had.

Q: Would it work okay over a grass surface?

I'm not sure it if would. The mat has an gripping type of back but grass is not a typically resistant surface.
