Great Scoops: Recipes from a Neighborhood Ice Cream Shop

A very good book. Great flavours & easy to make in my KitchenAid ice cream attachment ( custard bases are great ) . Suitable for all levels of home chef, consistently giving great results. I’ve made about half the non-vegan recipes & recommend this book along with The Perfect Scoop & Hello, My Name is Ice Cream. The holy trinity of ice cream books in my mind!

The book is quite pretty and nicely put together. I think it needs to be more clearly stated that this book does not contain THE custard recipe they serve and built their business on. I understand reading the book why it was not included as it doesn't work well in an at-home setting, but as someone who is quite comfortable making custard-style recipes as well as making up flavour combinations to add to bases, it was disappointing to not get a recipe for the famous custard recipe (as the book description was ambiguous and you assumed it was included). As a former Ottawa resident who can no longer visit the store, that was my main motivation in purchasing. Despite, it is a nice book and I appreciate having a few more flavour ideas for regular ice cream.

Ingredients slightly on the expensive side - but that<s to be expected nowadays. Great recipes!
