Certainly a great reference for the price.
This is certainly a good reference for the price. I am currently learning Korean, and a S. Korean friend of mine told me, after browsing through the thin book, that the translations are very accurate. The book is a little bit bigger than a "pocket-sized" reference... I suppose it may fit in a coat pocket. The word translation is certainly very helpful; however, I do have a little gripe with the romanization of some of the Korean words. After learning Korean pronunciations and speaking with my Korean friend, we both concurred that the romanizations are actually innacurate in some places. For instance, the ' character is a combination of the r/l sound in Korean, but the "r" certainly has a more evident usage when this character is used. The romanization of some of the words with this character uses "l" whereas it sounds more like "l"... I suppose I'm not a big fan of the romanization of Korean words.Overall, great purchase for the price. Might not be able to carry it with you in your pocket, but certainly smaller than most books. Translations are good according to my Korean friend, whom I trust because he is a native speaker. There are not a whole slew of words in this dictionary, but the words in it are certainly words that we all use in our everyday vocabularies. May need an extended dictionary if you want to get more specific for items like professional or medical terms or popular slang phrases.

Quickly look up the translation of a word in Korean
My Grandson is in the Military and is being stationed in Korea. This made a great Christmas giftand he really appreciated the thought. Now all he needs to learn is how to pronounce it. Ha, ha.

and this book is pretty helpful, I've gone to it quite a few ...
I'm learning korean studying with my girl right now, and this book is pretty helpful, I've gone to it quite a few times just keeping it in my back pocket. The particles and grammar of the language make this a bit harder to use than some, but it is good and actually pocket sized. It doesn't always have all the words, as to be expected, and sometimes the romanization is a little funky, but overall I'd say it is one of the better pocket dictionaries, if only because it is actually pocket sized, although a little tall, always sticking out of my back pocket a couple of inches.

Good but small
My student loves to use this dictionary for translation; however, it is missing a lot of vocabulary, so it may not be the best for school use.

Good Book
I am currently living in South Korea and I bought this book stateside when I found out I'd be coming here.I could not survive well without it.Pronunciation is VERY important in Hangul so I recommend getting an audio translation app on your smart phone.Reading it out of the book is usually not enough to get the right pronunciation. However, in a worst case scenario I've been able to just point at the word in the book (it's written in both Korean and English) and the person would get the gist of what I'm trying to say.

From a girl who knows nothing about Korea...
The reason I bought this book was to get a little insight into what my in-laws, full blood born and raised Koreans, are saying when I'm around. I know they're nice people, but curiosity killed the cat.So for a person who barely stumbles through english some of the time, I thought this thing was extremely helpful. having the written write along with the word, and having all of the typical words you would expect it to have is great.I do wish that they were more clear on exactly how it's pronounced and maybe even added the alphabet to help understand how to look at the written characters, but this works too.

So it doesn't help me as much as I would like while studying
There's not as many words as I had hoped. So it doesn't help me as much as I would like while studying. But it is a helpful little book. I especially like all the sample sentences and phrases. That was an unexpected and useful surprise.

It could have been better.
Maybe it's that I didn't read correctly but this dictionary it's romanized for you to search a Korean word instead of been writing in Hangul, and that's the reason why I give it 3 starts. (It does has the way that's writing in Hangul, but in parenthesis, and it should be the other way). Also, i know it may be because it's small, but I think it's missing a lot of important words that should be translated.
